New FDA Menu Labeling Rules Could Cost Brewers Thousands

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has finally issued guidance on menu labeling requirements for retail chain operations and small breweries are likely to take a financial hit. The new menu labeling rules require restaurants and foodservice establishments with more than 20 locations to disclose the caloric value and supplementary health criteria of beer, as well as other food and drinks, sold on-premise and will take effect on Dec. 1, 2016.

Shmaltz Brewing to Pour in ‘Meet the Brewer’ Section at GABF

New to this year’s Great American Beer Festival (Denver, CO) is the 30,000 square feet of hall space dedicated to the special “Meet the Brewer” section featuring Shmaltz Brewing Company and upwards of 100 additional breweries. Each brewery’s booth will be staffed entirely and exclusively by its employees (no volunteers). Passionate beer fans will have a chance to talk shop with the brewers and employees themselves who’re making all the magic happen.

Epic Brewing to Release ‘Big Bad Baptist’ on October 1

Big Bad Baptist will be released on October 1st and will arrive on retail shelves throughout the month. It will be available early in Denver at The Great American Beer Festival and in the Epic Brewing Taproom. It will also be on draught in Denver the week of September 21st at Paramount Café, World of Beer – Cherry Creek, Henry’s Tavern, Chiba Hut, and Hard Rock Café. There will be a special tapping at Falling Rock on Friday the 25th at 11:30 pm.

Deep Ellum Sues Texas Over “Archaic” Law

On Monday, the Dallas-based brewery filed a lawsuit against the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC), challenging the constitutionality of a state law that prohibits licensed breweries from selling beer to go from the point of production. Currently, wineries, distilleries, and even brewpub restaurants can legally sell their wares for off-premise consumption.
