Anheuser-Busch InBev (ABI) has vowed to “vigorously contest” an antitrust lawsuit filed by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) which seeks to block the beer giant from acquiring total ownership and control of Mexican brewer Grupo Modelo. ABI currently owns half of Grupo Modelo, which makes Corona, among other brands; the proposed $20.1 billion transaction would make it the sole owner of the company.

CHICO, Calif. — Fruits harvested from monastic grounds inspire the latest collaborative beers between Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. and the nearby Abbey of New Clairvaux. The ongoing Ovila Abbey Ale series features Belgian-style ales brewed in the centuries-old abbey tradition. Now available is Ovila Abbey Quad with Plums, which features plums from the monks’ 130 acres of plum orchards, and this summer will see the release of Ovila Abbey Saison with Mandarin Oranges and Peppercorns, brewed with mandarin oranges grown at the monastery in Vina, Calif.
After producing 120,000 barrels last year, Stevens Point Brewery will launch a $2 million expansion project this month. The expansion – the brewery’s fourth since 2010 – is scheduled for completion in May and will increase Stevens Point’s brewing capacity to 150,000 barrels.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Boulevard Brewing Company today announced it has entered into a sponsorship agreement with Major League Soccer’s Sporting KC to become the official craft beer sponsor of the team. The five-year deal expands last season’s informal partnership between the two homegrown organizations.
