Distribution Roundup: Almanac Expands to New York; Kannah Creek Enters Arizona

Making its biggest geographic leap to date, San Francisco’s Almanac Beer has announced plans to expand distribution to New York. Per a new partnership with S.K.I. Beer, Almanac’s lineup of beers will be available throughout the state’s five boroughs and on Long Island both on draft and in bottles beginning September 14.

Boston Beer is going vertical in the U.S. cider category. The company, which produces and markets the Angry Orchard line of hard ciders, has agreed to purchase a 60-acre orchard in upstate Montgomery, New York. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.

Using U.S. Census data from 2010, the Brewers Association (BA) believes that more Americans than ever before now live near breweries. BA economist Bart Watson reports that 52.9 million Americans, or 17.1 percent of the population, live in a ZIP code tabulation area with a brewery. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, ZIP code tabulation areas are “generalized areal representations of United States Postal Service (USPS) ZIP code service areas.”
