MadTree Brewing and the Cincinnati Horticultural Society teamed up to create a special limited edition beer for the Cincinnati Flower Show called Hortense. Hortense is a crisp 5.1% ABV Saison ale brewed with nasturtium and cucumbers. The nasturtium flower, grown locally at Carriage House Farms, provides peppery undertones while the cucumber provides a hint of melon to compliment the fruity notes already present in the beer.
The Brewers Association (BA) today released its annual rankings of the top 50 U.S. breweries based on 2015 sales volumes, and once again Ballast Point Brewing emerged as the biggest mover amongst the industry’s largest craft producers. Climbing 20 places from 31 on the “Top Craft Brewing Companies” list, Ballast Point is now ranked as the 11th largest U.S. craft brewery, according to the BA. Although the organization’s official production figures will not be made available until next month, the San Diego-based brewery had projected 2015 volumes to be about 290,000 barrels.
Uinta Brewing Company takes a fresh approach to their signature IPA, Hop Nosh, introducing a Tangerine variant of the product. Uinta’s new seasonal twist on their top-selling product, Hop Nosh Tangerine IPA, is brewed with real tangerine juice adding a tartness that compliments the notable tropical hop characteristics of the classic Hop Nosh.

Muntons Malted Ingredients, an International leader in the manufacture and supply of British malt, malted ingredients and home brewing kits, has announced plans to open a new distribution center in Denver, Colorado. Slated to open in April of this year, the facility joins three other existing Muntons’ distribution centers located in Boston, MA; Barton, VT; and, San Francisco, CA.
New Belgium Brewing’s flagship Fat Tire Amber Ale is flowing from their Asheville brewery and heading toward draft lines and cold boxes across the eastern United States. With production ramping up over the next few years, the 500,000 barrel capacity, 127,000 square-foot brewery gives the country’s fourth-largest craft brewer 1.5 million barrels of total capacity.
The Uncharted Waters series by Heavy Seas Beer will soon welcome back its Imperial Coffee Porter aged in bourbon barrels, Blackbeard’s Breakfast. This limited release will be available from May – June in all 17 states where Heavy Seas beer is distributed. Blackbeard’s Breakfast is a robust porter with a new world twist. Brewed with Chesapeake Bay Roasting Company’s Dark Sumatra coffee, and then aged in bourbon barrels, this porter is flavorful and complex.
Less than three months after choosing West Sacramento, California as the site of his next brewing venture, former Knee Deep Brewing co-owner Jeremy Warren has found a home for his new company, Revision Brewing. Warren plans to open Revision’s 20-barrel brewhouse at 1000 Riverside Parkway later this summer.

Antitrust regulators in South Africa have once again requested an extension to probe Anheuser-Busch InBev’s impending $106 billion acquisition of the world’s second-largest beer company, SABMiller. The nation’s Competition Commission, which reviews potentially monopolizing transactions in South Africa, today requested a fourth 15-day extension to complete its assessment of the so-called MegaBrew merger.
Foolproof Brewing Company today announced a partnership with Central Distributors, Inc., of Lewiston, Maine. Central will distribute Foolproof’s beers statewide in all markets outside of Portland. With statewide distribution in Maine, Foolproof has expanded its distribution footprint to include all of New England.
