Now, the 209-year-old mill site welcomes another historic trade that dates back thousands of years, as far as the Mesopotamians — brewing.
Charlottesville-based Champion Brewing Company is celebrating its fourth anniversary while looking ahead to an ambitious 2017. The company will begin the year by opening a taproom in downtown Richmond, Virginia. In February, Champion will open a combination brewery and restaurant on Charlottesville’s historic downtown mall.

Popular craft beermaker Trillium Brewing is planning to relocate its original brewing facility in the Fort Point neighborhood of Boston to a larger space just a few blocks away, Brewbound has learned. The new space, according to brewery co-owner Jean-Claude Tetreault, will span more than 15,000 sq. ft. and will include a full-scale restaurant as well as outdoor patio seating. The company is also looking into the feasibility of building a roof deck bar, Tetreault added.

Hopworks Urban Brewery, known for a sustainable, Eco-friendly approach to craft beer, will open their third location on Friday, December 30. The new space is a 6,000 square foot brewery and restaurant in East Vancouver, Washington, at 17707 SE Mill Plain Boulevard.

Back for the New Year! Our Bier De Champagne is part beer and part wine. We brewed this beer as a nice dry Saison and halfway through fermentation added Sauvignon Blanc grape juice and Champagne yeast. The result is a white grape leaning saison beer with complex fruit and spice flavors intertwined. Finally, we heavily carbonated the beer to bring it to life with effervescence much like a champagne. Mason Ale Works commemorates one year in business with the launch of its core portfolio of beers in cans. They have been building their portfolio of craft beers since opening their Oceanside facility in December 2015. The core line-up includes Charley Hustle Red IPA, Jambi IPA, Willy Time Belgian-Style White, and Cash Imperial Coffee Stout.
Nickel Brook Brewing Co. announced today that three of its core brands will be available in select Beer Stores across Ontario beginning this week. Tall cans of Naughty Neighbour APA, Headstock IPA and Cause & Effect Blonde Ale will initially be stocked at 57 Beer Store outlets, with plans to expand into more stores in 2017. Distribution will be focused on self-serve and “Beer Boutique” stores, giving beer lovers greater access to some of Ontario’s best-selling craft brands.
