Massachusetts craft brewers are once again asking state officials to reform a 44-year-old state franchise law that governs the relationships between suppliers and distributors. On Tuesday, hundreds of industry stakeholders turned out for a hearing at the State House to hear comments from both wholesalers and brewers over a bill that would dramatically loosen franchise law restrictions, allowing smaller brewers more freedom to switch distributors.
Summit Brewing Company today announces the release of Sticke Alt: Düsselfdorf Style Ale. The 20th beer in the limited release Unchained Series will be available on draught and in 12oz bottle 6-packs the second week of October. Dogfish Head, the country’s 13th largest craft brewery, today announced it has sold a 15 percent stake to LNK Partners, a New York-based private equity firm that has previously invested in companies like Niman Ranch, Performance Bicycle, Beachbody and Au Bon Pain, among others. Craft Brew Alliance (CBA) is in the process of purchasing a minority stake in Nantucket, Mass.-based Cisco Brewers, CEO Andy Thomas told Brewbound on Monday. The two parties are still negotiating specific terms, but Thomas said a deal would be for less than 25 percent of the company, enabling Cisco to maintain its status as a Brewers Association-defined craft brewer.
