The Brewers Association (BA)—the not-for-profit trade group dedicated to promoting and protecting America’s small and independent craft brewers—announced the results of one of the largest commercial beer competitions to date, the 2016 World Beer Cup. The awards were presented at the conclusion of Craft Brewers Conference & BrewExpo America® in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Craft beer brands that are bought out by private equity firms remain closer to their independent roots than those that are sold to large beer companies, according to Brewers Association director Paul Gatza. Speaking at this morning’s ‘State of the Industry” presentation during the Craft Brewers Conference in Philadelphia, Gatza told attendees that the difference maker in the white-hot transactional market is independence from the beer establishment.
Oskar Blues Brewery is officially a nationally distributed brand. The company today announced it had signed distribution agreements with two wholesalers in Montana, the final state to join Oskar Blues’ distribution map.
San Francisco is considered a very influential territory for craft beer. After much consideration, Revision Brewing Company has joined forces with Morris Distributing for distribution in San Francisco and North Bay. Morris, founded in 1992 is now in the process of moving into a larger distribution facility in Petaluma, California that will allow for increased efficiency.

Manufacturers of custom brewing systems, JVNW announced that they are completing a state-of-the-art 100 BBL 4-vessel automated brewing system that will soon travel the length of the country to find its home at the Isle Brewers Guild (IBG) in Pawtucket, RI. The brewhouse is PLC controlled including a fully sequenced CIP system and is the largest undertaking for the company who manufactures 100% of their equipment in Oregon.

Although it missed out on a chance to be included as an amendment in the final version of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act of 2016, the Craft Beverage Modernization and Tax Reform Act (CBMTRA) has still garnered support from more than 200 members of the House. The bill, H.R. 2903, had 202 sponsors in the House as of press time. A senate companion bill, S.1562, currently has 38 co-sponsors.

Eddyline is strongly committed to the concepts of quality and local community by exporting beer around the world negates both concepts. 3 Stars Brewing Company is set to release it’s third 16 oz. can offering on Friday May 13th. The beer will be released in super limited quantities at the brewery and allocated to a select lineup of accounts in D.C. The new release, named “#ultrafresh”, is an 8.3% Double I.P.A. which will be a continuing series throughout the Summer and Fall.
One year old Fieldwork Brewing Company (www.fieldworkbrewing.com) has expanded production capacity at its Berkeley, California brewery to over 12,000 bbls per year. Fieldwork sold over 5,000 bbls in its first 13 months of operation and is forecasting 9,000+ bbls for 2016. “We are thrilled by the response we have received in the Bay Area since we opened in early 2015,” said Alex Tweet, Co-founder and Head Brewer.
Lincoln Park Zoo and DryHop Brewers are partnering on the release of a new beer to raise money for the Lester E. Fisher Center for the Study and Conservation of Apes. This is the third consecutive year that the zoo and DryHop are collaborating on a beer; in 2015, a Cantaloupe & Clementine Wit was brewed to support the Crowned Lemur Wish List Fund.
