California Beer Industry Reacts to Start of Recreational Cannabis Sales

Three days after sales of recreational cannabis began in California, U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions issued a memo calling for a stricter enforcement of federal marijuana laws and, in the process, rescinded Obama-era Department of Justice protections for legal cannabis that was included in the 2013 Cole Memorandum. Brewbound polled beer industry professionals from all three tiers, and most suggested that legalized recreational marijuana would have little impact on beer sales.

Brewery Ommegang to Expand Visitors’ Center in Cooperstown

Brewery Ommegang has broken ground on an extensive expansion of their onsite visitors’ center, upgrading all facets of the facility to enable the brewery to better accommodate the surging crowds of beer tourists that flock to the area. The renovations began just before the holidays and will be completed by the start of the 2018 summer season.

Holidaily Brewing Hires New Brewer

Holidaily Brewing, one of the few certified gluten-free breweries in the U.S., bolstered its considerable growth plans today by hiring Jacob Johnson as a brewer. Holidaily, which currently distributes three beers along Colorado’s Front Range, brought on Johnson as it targets a 75 percent increase in production this year from 2017 levels.
