Svalbard Brewery — the world’s northernmost brewery — has become Cask’s first Norwegian micro-canning craft brewery. Years in the making, Svalbard Brewery is located in the remote town of Longyearbyen (population 2,400) on Spitsbergen Island in Norway’s Svalbard Islands archipelago. The Arctic Ocean islands are home to an estimated 3,500 polar bears, and the brewery is just over 800 miles from the North Pole.
Our amber ale has a malt to hop balance that is nearly even, slightly leaning toward malt. Nutty, light caramel, toasty, and biscuity describes the malt flavors of this easily approachable beer. Low yet perceptible English hop character round out the flavor which ends with a medium dry finish.

Boston Beer Company today reported third quarter depletions growth of six percent and net revenues of $293.1 million, a nine percent increase over the same period last year. During an earnings call, the company credited the success of its Traveler Beer, Coney Island Root Beer and Twisted Tea brands — which offset declines from its flagship Samuel Adams brand — as the primary growth drivers in the quarter.

For the first time, Founders Brewing Co. will release its Scotch ale, Dirty Bastard, in a 12-pack of 12 oz. cans, labeled as the “Dirty Dozen”. Dirty Bastard is one of the original beers made by Founders Brewing Co., saving them from the brink of bankruptcy and putting the brewery at the forefront of the extreme beer movement. The popular year-round Scotch ale is dark ruby in color and brewed with seven varieties of imported malts. It is complex in its finish, with hints of smoke and peat, paired with a malty richness and a right hook of hop power to give it the bad attitude worthy of its name.
New Belgium Brewing’s Tour de Fat, a traveling tour of bicycle advocacy and hilarity in charity, raised $647,668 for local nonprofits this season, totaling more than $4 million in its 16-year stretch. This year’s total is up more than $20,000 from last year. The event is free, but all proceeds from beer and merchandise sales and donations in each city go to local nonprofit organizations focused on making communities a better place to ride a bike.
