Catawba Brewing Adds Statewide Distribution in Alabama

Finding a Catawba beer in the state of Alabama will become easier this summer. Catawba Brewing of Asheville and Morganton, NC is partnering with United-Johnson Brothers of Alabama for state-wide distribution. Several pre-release events are scheduled during the next two weeks with full rollout in early July.

Beer Institute Introduces Voluntary Disclosure Initiative

The Beer Institute, a Washington D.C.-based trade association representing domestic and international beer companies, has launched a new initiative asking brewers large and small to display caloric and nutritional information on individual products, packaging and websites. Calling it the “Brewers Voluntary Disclosure Initiative,” the BI is encouraging its 44 brewer and importer members – as well as more than 4,000 non-member craft breweries — to voluntarily include a serving facts statement on their products, as well as disclose ingredients on either the label or secondary packaging by 2020.

Bold Rock Hard Cider to Enter Georgia in August

Bold Rock Hard Cider has announced plans to begin selling its award winning craft cider in Georgia on August 1. The award-winning regional craft cidery’s variety of hard cider styles can currently be found across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast from Pennsylvania through South Carolina, including Tennessee. The expansion into Georgia comes via Atlanta Beverage Company, Eagle Rock Distributing Company, and Leon Farmer & Company.

Louis Glunz Beer, Inc., Chicago’s family-run craft and specialty import beer distributor, announces the acquisition of Niche Import Co. brand Possmann Pure Cider, available now in the Chicago market. Kelterei Possmann—a 135-year-old apple wine maker based in Frankfurt, Germany—is the third cider brand to join Glunz in 2016, along with Blake’s Hard Cider and Pacific Coast Cider.

Duvel USA Names New Brewery Ommegang President

Duvel Moortgat USA today announced it has hired former Diageo marketing veteran Doug Campbell as the new president of Brewery Ommegang. In a press release, the company said Campbell would “oversee the day-to-day operations at the Cooperstown brewery” and “spearhead all marketing initiatives for Brewery Ommegang.” Current marketing director Bill Wetmore is leaving to pursue other opportunities, the company noted.

Sierra Nevada Brewmaster to Retire in 2017

Longtime Sierra Nevada brewmaster Steve Dresler will retire in early 2017, the beer company announced last week. Under Dresler’s direction, Sierra Nevada won eight World Beer Cup awards and 31 Great American Beer Festival medals, according to the release. Sierra Nevada said it has already begun the search for a new brewmaster and that Dresler would help train the yet-to-be named replacement.

Destihl Brewery Releases Synchopathic Dry-Hopped Sour in Cans

DESTIHL Brewery, of Bloomington, Illinois officially announced today that it is now releasing its latest canned sour beer in its popular Wild Sour Series: a dry-hopped sour ale called Synchopathic. DESTIHL brewed the beer for the first time in January as a draft-only release, but the first canned batch was packaged last week and will be hitting markets soon.

Hopworks Urban Brewery to Open Brewpub in Washington

Hopworks Urban Brewery announces plans to open a new 6,000 square foot brewery and restaurant in east Vancouver, Washington. With construction currently underway, the Vancouver brewpub will be located at 17707 SE Mill Plain Boulevard, and is scheduled to open this Fall. The Vancouver site marks the third Hopworks location and second brewery site.
