Duvel Moortgat USA today announced it has hired former Diageo marketing veteran Doug Campbell as the new president of Brewery Ommegang.

In a press release, the company said Campbell would “oversee the day-to-day operations at the Cooperstown brewery” and “spearhead all marketing initiatives for Brewery Ommegang.”

Campbell will supplant current marketing director Bill Wetmore who is leaving to pursue other opportunities, the company noted.

“Finding the next leader for Brewery Ommegang was a challenge we could not take lightly,” Duvel USA president Simon Thorpe said via the release. “Bill has done terrific work over the last two years and it was important we find someone to carry on the torch who not only had the talent to take Brewery Ommegang into its future, but someone who wanted to put roots down in the Cooperstown community.”

Campbell, who will officially join the company on August 1, most recently served as the brand director for Ketel One, a super-premium vodka brand owned by Diageo. Prior to that, Campbell served for more than three years as the marketing director for Diageo’s beer division, where he oversaw the Guinness, Red Stripe, Smithwick’s and Harp brands.

He also previously served as the Diageo’s innovation director for beer and led the launch of Guinness Black Lager.

“Doug brings a wealth of expertise in high-end spirits & beer; a great passion for craft and our culture; and a desire to build on an already flourishing, iconic brewery that recently won Champion Brewery at the World Beer Cup 2016,” Thorpe added.
