Widmer Brothers Brewing Collaborates with Timbers Goalkeeper on Centennial Celebration IPA

Widmer Brothers Brewing and Portland Timbers Goalkeeper Jake Gleeson teamed up to brew a small-batch, commemorative beer – “Centennial Celebration IPA,” a pineapple rye India Pale Ale– to mark the 100th consecutive Portland Timbers regular season match sellout. Centennial Celebration IPA will be tapped exclusively at Providence Park at the Timbers match on Saturday, September 10th as the team hosts Real Salt Lake.

Full Sail Brewing Releases 2016 Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout

Full Sail’s brewmasters have opened the bourbon casks and released this year’s Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout, a deep and complex brew that is black as night with a strong roasted malt character and full body. Brewed in November 2015, this stout was carefully aged in Wild Turkey bourbon casks from Kentucky until the robust character of the stout picked up the perfect amount of wood, bourbon and oak flavors, resulting in an elegantly sophisticated beer.

Anheuser-Busch to Acquire SpikedSeltzer

Anheuser-Busch InBev today announced it would acquire fast-growing hard seltzer producer Boathouse Beverage LLC., which makes and markets the SpikedSeltzer brand. A final acquisition price was not disclosed, but Boathouse co-founders Nick Shields and Dave Holmes described the deal as a 100 percent equity purchase.

Labatt Breweries of Canada and Anheuser-Busch announced today the appointment of Marcelo Abud as Business Unit President, Canada. Marcelo most recently served as regional vice president in the Midwest U.S. for Anheuser-Busch, where his team grew market share and net revenue. Marcelo will replace Jan Craps, who has been named as zone president, Asia Pacific South.

DOJ Closes Investigation into Devils Backbone Acquisition

The U.S. Department of Justice has officially closed its investigation into Anheuser-Busch InBev’s acquisition of Devils Backbone Brewing Company, according to a statement issued today by Deputy Assistant Attorney General Juan Arteaga. Citing conditions in a previously agreed upon settlement between A-B InBev and the DOJ — one that permits the world’s largest beer company to proceed with its acquisition of SABMiller — Arteaga said the “competitive implications of ABI’s acquisition of Devils Backbone are too uncertain at this time to warrant further investigation.”

Duffy — whom over the last 20 years has held various sales and marketing positions with Boston Beer Company, New Belgium Brewing and Great Divide, among other organizations — had most recently been working with First Beverage Group.
