Patagonia and HUB collaborated on a beer. Meet the brewer and learn about the beer's special grain.

Patagonia Provisions’ innovative beer collaboration with Hopworks Urban Brewery (HUB) gave rise to the creation of Long Root Ale, a pale ale that features Kernza, a perennial wheatgrass that has substantial environmental benefits. On September 20, at 7:00pm, Patagonia’s Denver store will host an event that puts Kernza grain in the center spotlight. Patagonia will screen “Unbroken Ground,” a Patagonia Provisions film that highlights Kernza, and host a Meet The Brewer with HUB head brewer, Justin Miller.

The evening kicks off with live music and a chili bar, provided by Patagonia Provisions. Long Root Ale will be on tap all evening. Beginning at 7:45pm Patagonia will screen “Unbroken Ground,” a compelling 25-minute Patagonia Provisions film by director Chris Malloy. Unbroken Ground explores four areas of agriculture that aim to change our relationship to the land and oceans and features Kernza. View the trailer for Unbroken Ground here.

HUB Head Brewer Justin Miller will then speak about how Kernza works in the brewing process and about upcoming projects with Patagonia Provisions. Kernza requires significantly less water to grow, thrives without pesticides, and keeps more carbon from the atmosphere than annual grain. It also tastes great in beer.
