Speaker 1 [00:26] Next up, we're gonna bring up Maris Sophie desormon from Myce Beverage. And we're gonna talk about to a founder, very early stage. Have your microphone there. So tell me a little bit about yourself and, and, uh and your beverage that you're that you're building here. Yes,
Mary Sophia [00:43] of course. I'm Mary Sophia. I'm the founder of I do OK with your name? Yes, you did. I tried so hard. So yes, I'm Marisa Finn, the founder of Myce, uh, one of the new, uh, and first kind of drink called Wild. I started this journey 3 years ago already, but we launched only 5 months ago. Uh, I used to work in marketing before for like the last 15 years, so let's say it's a new challenge.
Speaker 1 [01:10] Well, I'm sure this is a question that you've heard before, even though you're early stage, but. You know We know a lot about and we talk a lot on Taste Radio about Cava and we talk about kratom, but Canada is one that I'm less familiar with, so what is it?
Mary Sophia [01:25] So canna, it's pretty new, still on the market. It's been there for centuries, but usually people would find it in other forms tincture, powder, uh, but it's one of the first time it comes in ready to drink and compared to, I would say cava and Kratom, it's just a different experience at all. So it's more the um uplifting part of the effect versus relaxation.
Speaker 1 [01:44] OK, so for me, cava, it just, I'll be, I'll have a cava and I'll. Suddenly just noticed the edges right off. What, how does sort of
Mary Sophia [01:53] hit you? So actually the cana is working very differently because the only function it has is to uplift the mood. So what it's gonna do is that you have serotonin in your body, it's gonna retain the serotonin for a period of time, so you feel. Sounded at ease and then as I said you just start noticing really mildly that you feel good actually and you're really embracing the moment.
Speaker 1 [02:16] So how did you, how did you first experience Canna and what was it about it that made you have to build this beverage and why beverage?
Mary Sophia [02:24] Uh, that's a good question. As I said, I used to work in marketing and I started my sober, um, journey a few years ago and I was switching from alcohol to mocktail and I just thought it was sad five years ago that we just shift from mocktail and we removed the function. And I couldn't find a drink with the only function which was to feel good, you know what we like about alcohol, the uplifting part without the crash. So I, when I sold my company, I hired a scientist and I told him, here's my checklist. I want to feel good without the anxiety, without the crash and all my checklist and being safe and can was the plant actually that was eating, eating all the bugs.
Speaker 1 [03:06] OK, so when people drink Myce. How do they explain the onset and, and the feeling because you just said it's the uplift of alcohol, but I'm picturing myself, you know, slurring my words and feeling a little bit tipsy. How do they explain it?
Mary Sophia [03:21] That's a great question. So actually, Um, when we, uh, analyzed the effect we have on alcohol, it's a set of many, many steps. You have, for the sedatives, so you, you're, um, and then there's the bloodstream activated, so it's a lot of things happening at the same time, a high low, a high high and a low low. While can actually it doesn't create something new in your body, it just retain what you have, so people will usually
Speaker 1 [03:45] feel,
Mary Sophia [03:47] yeah, exactly. So people actually just feel they won't notice a lift, they will just feel at some point that oh my God, it's been 15 minutes, it's been 20 minutes, and I didn't overthink, but it's not acting on the brain, uh, it's just acting on keeping the grounding, satisfying mindset over and over so.
Speaker 1 [04:07] Have that mindset already. It helps you retain
Mary Sophia [04:09] that. Exactly. But even if you don't have it and you don't notice it, the fact that you retain the serotonin for a longer period of time, you'll start noticing actually that you feel good.
Speaker 1 [04:18] OK, so what is an efficacious dose? Like how much should, should someone take, and then what happens if you have like 3 times that dose?
Mary Sophia [04:27] So actually we do recommend to, because Canada is pretty on the market, so you need to know how it's gonna react to your own biology. So we recommend starting with one can. Uh, we wouldn't recommend more than 2 cans a day, but what's important about the concentration is that you'll see on the market more and more cannot drink, but the concentration matters and the quality of the extract. So essential question of milligram in your drink, but you need to look at what percentage of alkaloid there is in your drink. So it's another world. Um, and the canna extract quality is super important. We have about 500 mg of canna within the drink, which is way above the other drinks, but this is why we designed the drink like this because we still respect the safety dose we are being compliant, but we want people to actually feel something for real.
Speaker 1 [05:16] Is this gonna melt me and send me to the sunken place like that time at the Rose Cafe?
Mary Sophia [05:20] Not at all. Actually, that's what I like about it. I don't like to feel inhibited. That was super important for me. You still feel
Speaker 1 [05:26] like you're in control. You still feel like you're in control.
Mary Sophia [05:29] Totally, and that was important for me because as a mom. I have a teen at home and I wanted her to be able to do with her friend and but still be in control of our own and don't have any inhibited faculties.
Speaker 1 [05:42] OK, so a 16 year old could drink this. So this comes to my next question of where does Myce live? Is it non-alk? Is it mood? Is it functional? Is it adult soda, social tonic, and who, who is this for? Like you just said a 16 year old, I wouldn't think like maybe 18 plus for this, but.
Mary Sophia [06:01] Actually I was, when I say 16+ it means that it's compliant for 15+. We've put it 16+ because I wouldn't feel comfortable, my 14 year old girl to just go out and party and have a feel good drink. Um, I would say right now what's interesting is that our customer base has a very wide range, so it starts at around 2024 and then until 65, so we are on um uh on the Gulf, uh. tournaments as well as in the gyms right now. So as I said, which is last 5 months, yeah, I, what and what's funny is that I thought at the beginning when I launched it that would be mostly to replace alcohol in celebration mindset, but right now people are taking it on a daily, uh, daily, um,
Speaker 1 [06:47] that's interesting because I was gonna ask you what the actual Myce moment is like if it's going out, if it's winding down, if it's, you know, replacing a cocktail, if it's daytime, nighttime, socializing sounds like. Sounds like not exactly for that and for some use occasions that you hadn't planned on.
Mary Sophia [07:03] I, I mean we're in the discovery stage right now because we launched 5 months ago and Canada is still pretty new
Speaker 1 [07:08] and you but you're one of the first, so
Mary Sophia [07:10] exactly, but for me it's in celebration because I don't drink during the day, but most of our clients right now they, they use Myce either on the afternoon as a delivery sets. Or in the evening to replace alcohol, but what's good with Myce is that you can also mix it with alcohol and cannabis, and it's still fully safe.
Speaker 1 [07:28] When someone tries Myce, what, uh, what reaction tells you that they get it? Like how do you know somebody's going to go, oh I want this again?
Mary Sophia [07:38] Um. I'm laughing because I think as it's new right now people when they drink it they start over analyzing it so the serotonin just dropped, you know, uh, so you, I think after the second can you start noticing it more because you know you, you stop overthinking it and I know people like it because they start. Just laughing, smiling, and they say, OK, actually I think I feel it wrong.
Speaker 1 [08:02] That's fantastic. OK, last thing, where can they find you? What's your Instagram handle?
Mary Sophia [08:06] So my Instagram is Drink Myce. Uh, we can, you can find Myce at Drmice.com, and it's available nationwide online and in a few stores.
Speaker 1 [08:14] Fantastic. Thank you so much for doing this. You did a fantastic job. I can't wait to try it now.
