Uinta Brewing has agreed to change the name of Hop Notch, the brewery’s flagship beer and one of the fastest-growing IPAs in the country, following a request from Massachusetts-based Notch Brewing, which owns trademark for the word “Notch” as it relates to beer and breweries. Notch Brewing claimed that Hop Notch was creating marketplace confusion.
SweetWater Brewery has inked a deal with River City Distributing for expansion into Louisville, Ky. Louisville is the third Kentucky market that SweetWater has entered this year, following new distribution in Lexington and Northern Kentucky. Prior to its arrival in Kentucky, the Georgia-based brewery had not expanded into a new state since 2008.

CBA announced Tuesday the hiring of Ken Kunze, who has been named the company’s new chief marketing officer, according to a release. Chicago beer drinkers should get ready for a taste of ‘Vacationland.’ Popular boutique brewer Maine Beer Co. recently signed a new wholesale agreement with Windy City Distribution — part of the Reyes Beverage Group of beer distributors — and made its first shipment of beer to the Midwest just last week.

The craft beer category continued to capture on-premise market share in the third quarter despite what GuestMetrics calls the “weakest” of the year for all alcohol categories. If ever there was a race to open a second brewery on the East Coast, Oskar Blues won by a long shot. The Longmont, Colo.-based craft brewery officially opened its second brewing facility in Brevard, N.C. last December, ahead of Sierra Nevada and New Belgium, which are also planning expansions in the Tar Heel State of their own.
