Adding to the array of regional and national chain placements the brand is already available across, Rupee is excited to launch distribution for the first time in the Pacific Northwest starting with the state of Washington, introducing the brand statewide via Columbia Distributing.

About the Rupee Beer Founders

Brothers Van and Sumit Sharma, sons of Indian restaurateurs in the Indian restaurant trade for over half a century, found they could never find reliable distribution of Indian beer in Maine – the least diverse state in America where their family immigrated to from Europe.

After moving back to Portland, Maine after living in London and Australia for years during the pandemic, the brothers decided to not only create a fresher tasting and more reliable local Indian-inspired brand, but set out to design a beer designed to pair with the Indian and spicy flavors the brothers grew up on.

They partnered with brewing legend Alan Pugsley, 40+ year master beer brewer, lover of Indian food as a British expat in Maine, and brewmaster of over 100+ global beer brands. Rupee Beer is helping educate more of America on how to approach Indian and global cuisine, while enjoying the perfectly crafted pint of beer to pair with.

Rupee is distributed in 21 states & Washington D.C., with direct to consumer online sales across 45 U.S. states.
