Duvel USA to Consolidate Sales Divisions as Part Sales and Marketing Team Restructure

Duvel USA is making changes to its organizational structure and sales regions in an effort to “improve focus and execution,” Duvel USA EVP of sales and marketing Bobby Dykstra wrote today in a note to the company’s wholesalers.

Beginning February 1, Duvel USA — whose brands include Boulevard Brewing (Kansas City, Missouri), Brewery Ommegang (Cooperstown, New York) and the Duvel import labels — will cut its regional sales divisions from six to four, while maintaining a separate national accounts team, Dykstra wrote.

Those divisions will each be led by general managers, who will be tasked with setting the sales, marketing and logistics strategy for each region. They include:

  • Blythe Lee, director of national accounts;
  • John Mediate, general manager, East Division (Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, West Virginia, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Alabama);
  • Todd Hanson, general manager, Midwest Division (Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee);
  • Laura Swanson, general manager, Central Division (Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Arkansas, Oklahoma);
  • Brian Hackler, general manager, West Division (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Alaska, Hawaii).

Dykstra noted that some additional changes were made in each of those divisions in order to “appropriately support each market and to build our priority brands.” Those moves will be communicated separately, he added.

“Many markets will experience little change in their division assignment and the Duvel USA personnel supporting them,” Dykstra wrote.

Twenty-two states (IL, MI, TX, AZ, NM, CO, UT, WY, ID, MT, LA, NC, SC, TN, MS, AL, GA, FL, CO, WY, ID, and OK) will have new sales directors.

“To continue to provide the best possible customer service to our wholesalers and to streamline internal communication, we will not be adjusting our supply chain team wholesaler assignments,” Dykstra wrote.

As part of the restructure, the company laid off five employees from its 80-plus person sales and marketing team, the company confirmed.
