About the Lead Brewer role

 The Lead Brewer is responsible for the entire beer making process, including but not limited to raw material handling, brew day operations, fermentation monitoring, cellaring, filtering, inventory, and ensuring all quality standards are met throughout every process. The Lead Brewer will be responsible for the day-to-day operations with the help of a production brewer, in both the Brewhouse and Cellar. The Lead Brewer should be passionate about craft brewing, self-motivated to further their knowledge, and bring a fun and inspiring attitude to the team! 

Experience and passion for a wide variety of beer styles is required.  


Lead Brewer duties and responsibilities

• Operate brewhouse with the maximum attention to detail and accuracy (milling, mashing, lautering, proper gravities, etc.)

• Maintain an inventory of raw materials & brewery supplies

• Lead day-to-day cellar operations, including:

• Yeast harvesting, propagating, and pitching with the use of yeast brinks.

• Testing daily gravities, dry-hopping, centrifuge transfers, carbonating, and monitoring fermentation

• CIP and Sanitization on all vessels (brewhouse, fermenters, and bright tanks)

• Maintain accurate production and inventory records in Ekos Brewery Management software and Microsoft Excel.

• Maintain brewery equipment as well as general facility

• Assist in creating and maintaining the production schedule

• Collaborate on recipe development and pilot batches

• Assist with sensory evaluation, and recipe adjustments.

• Train, mentor, and support production staff to foster a positive, collaborative culture

• Oversee and assist with barrel-aged projects

• Represent the brewery at festivals and events 


Who We’re Looking For

• 3+ years of professional brewing and/or cellar experience in an environment producing 10,000bbl plus a year

• Desire for ongoing education and professional development; keeps up with industry trends, podcasts, and publications.

• Strong knowledge of fermentation science, yeast health, and sanitation

• Organized, detail-oriented, and process-driven

• Collaborative mindset with respect for clear creative leadership

• Comfortable in a physically demanding production environment

• Experience with Semi automated equipment is a plus.

• Ability to think critically and multitask

• Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.

• Ability to lift 55lbs and move 165lbs, as needed. move full kegs and work in hot/cold/variable conditions.

• Physical capability to climb ladders, stand for extended periods, bend, kneel, and stretch regularly

• Forklift certified (or willing to become certified).

Compensation & Benefits

$55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per Year (DOE)
