Harpoon Brewery to Contract Brew Beer for Ex-Red Sox Player Kevin Youkilis

BOSTON Beer, Boston and baseball are coming together like never before, thanks to Harpoon Brewery and retired baseball legend Kevin Youkilis. Announced today, Harpoon will contract brew two beers from Youkilis’ award-winning California-based brewpub Loma Brewing Company: Greek God of Hops Double IPA and Appeasement IPA, for distribution in Massachusetts and Rhode Island this fall.

Based on Youkilis’ New England ties as a former Boston baseball player and a shared love for quality, craft beer, this partnership will bring Loma Brewing Company’s beers to the east coast for the first time.

“Bringing Loma Brewing Company beers to Boston has always been a dream of mine and I’m thankful to the folks at Harpoon Brewery for helping us make this happen,” said Kevin Youkilis, co-founder of Loma Brewing Company. “Boston is an incredible city with a great taste for beer. I’m thrilled to bring home a taste of the Golden State to help celebrate everything this city has to offer.”

Loma Brewing Company was chosen as the 2017 California Commercial Beer Brewery of the Year at the 2017 California State Fair. Appeasement IPA, a 7% ABV IPA with modern American hops, blueberry notes and stone fruit hop flavors, took first place in the American India Pale Ale category that same year. Greek God of Hops, a 9% ABV double IPA, features Magnum, Amarillo, Centennial and Columbus hops. Both beers will be available in 4-packs of 16 oz. cans.

“Bringing not one but two of Loma Brewing Company’s excellent beers to Boston was a no-brainer,” said Dan Kenary, CEO and co-founder of Harpoon Brewery. “Since leaving Boston, Kevin has remained a great friend of the Brewery’s and we’ve enjoyed watching Loma Brewing Company flourish from afar these past few years. I have no doubt Boston beer drinkers will welcome both to our thriving beer scene.”

Greek God of Hops and Appeasement will be available in Massachusetts and Rhode Island stores this September and are being sold via Harpoon Distributing Company, Atlas Distributing, Inc., Merrimack Valley Distributing Co. and Horizon Beverage.

About the Harpoon Brewery

The Harpoon Brewery was founded in 1986 by beer lovers who wanted more and better beer options. When the Brewery was founded, Harpoon was issued Brewing Permit #001 by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, since it was the first to brew commercially in Boston after a dormant period of about 25 years. Harpoon’s line of craft beer features its award-winning IPA and seasonal beers, along with special limited releases. In 2014, Harpoon became an employee-owned company.

About Loma Brewing Company

Loma Brewing Company was founded in Los Gatos, California in 2016 by Kevin Youkilis and his brother, Scott. Kevin, retired from baseball since 2013, spent his time in Boston helping the Red Sox sweep two World Series and developing a real passion for better beer (with some help and support from his friends at Harpoon). In their first year of business, Loma Brewing Company was named the California Commercial Beer Brewery of the Year at the California State Fair, where their Appeasement American IPA and Summer is Coming Maibock took home first place medals and their No Oranges Allowed finished second. In 2018, the brewery won first place in the American-Style Wheat Beer Category and second place for Kolsch. Appeasement and Greek God of Hops are available in cans in the Bay Area and, now, in Eastern MA and Rhode Island.
