Scofflaw Brewery Expands Distribution to Alabama

ATLANTA, Ga.  Scofflaw Brewing Co.’s co-founder and CEO, Matt Shirah, officially announces the expansion of the brewery’s distribution efforts into Alabama, starting Monday, December 3, 2018.

Celebrating the brewery’s fourth build-out within its second year since conception, Scofflaw has been named one of the best new breweries in America by BeerAdvocate, RateBeer, USA Today and Craft Beer Brewing. Known for its signature beer, the Basement IPA, Scofflaw has exploded into the Georgia craft beer scene since its initial launch in late 2016. After years or working with United Distributors in Georgia, Scofflaw has announced that the Brewery will partner with United– Johnson Brothers of Alabama.

“When we go into a market, I want to be sure that we have a real connection to that market. We scraped up the money to start this brewery with funds from just a few friends and my family, and some of them are from Alabama,” said Shirah. “We really wanted to share the Scofflaw experience with Bama – I knew the state had a great potential beer market, and is in close proximity to the brewery. It all just made sense.”

Starting Monday, December 3, 2018, Scofflaw will be releasing a select draft and a small amount of packaged beer in the Birmingham and Mobile markets. Scofflaw will deliver product at the request of retailers and with the indication of interest from consumers in the state.

The following are the initial beers that will be available:

  • Basement IPA – Scofflaw’s signature citrus-y India Pale Ale, created in the original brewery down in Matt’s Mother-in-law’s basement, hence the name. 7.5% ABV.
  • POG Basement IPA – Basement’s lil’ brother with passion fruit, orange and guava. 7.5% ABV.
  • Dirty Beaches – An easy drinking tropical wheat with waves of fruit aromas and flavors. 6.3% ABV.

As part of the launch, the Scofflaw team will be hosting the following events, with more to come:

  • Monday, December 3, at 6 p.m. – Slice Pizza, Birmingham
  • Tuesday, December 4, at 6 p.m. – Hop City Craft Beer & Wine, Birmingham
  • Thursday, December 6, at 6:30 p.m. – The Beer Hog, Pelham
  • Friday, December 7, at 6 p.m. – Loda Bier Garten, Mobile

“We will be on the ground sharing our story and building relationships with the most important folks, the consumer. We will do our damn best to create a valuable experience for the consumer and incremental value for the retailers that are interested,” commented Shirah. “And, well, we just might fit in a little hunting too…”
