Houston, TX – For fans of Texas craft beer, the annual release of Saint Arnold Pumpkinator is considered the official start of the holiday season. An award-winning pumpkinized imperial stout from the oldest craft brewery in Texas, Saint Arnold Pumpkinator 2016 features 1,500 pounds of pumpkin, will begin appearing on draft and in 22-ounce bottles throughout Texas and Louisiana on Monday, October 17th.

Saint Arnold Pumpkinator has won a World Beer Cup Silver Medal and is one of the brewery’s most anticipated annual releases. It is often described as the beer equivalent of biting into a chocolate pumpkin pie. Serving at temperatures of 50 degrees or higher can considerably enhance the flavor profile. As it warms, the spices move forward in the taste and the chocolate moves to the finish. The pumpkin provides a pleasant undertone and a nice mouthfeel.

“Even though we use a lot of pumpkin in the Pumpkinator recipe, the pumpkin itself is a subtle flavor compared to everything else going on the beer,” said Saint Arnold Brewer Stephen Rawlings. “The amazing aroma mostly comes from the pumpkin pie spice we add, which includes everything you would expect, such as cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. We add a little during the brew day and then we dry spice after fermentation about a month before filtering, which creates that great pumpkin pie aroma.”

Black with ruby highlights, Saint Arnold Pumpkinator is brewed with a combination of pale two row, caramel and black malts. Cascade and Liberty hops provide a background hop flavor, pumpkin adds to a rich mouthfeel while molasses, brown sugar and spices complete the impression of a kitchen full of pumpkin pies.
