Rahr & Sons Brewing Co. to Release Jack Daniel’s Aged Winter Warmer

FORT WORTH, Texas — In November, Rahr & Sons Brewing Co. will release its popular Bourbon Barrel Aged Winter Warmer (BBAWW), aged 100 percent in Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel Tennessee Whiskey barrels for the first time.

Rahr & Sons partnered with Jack Daniel’s as part of its barrel program in which the distillery provides its whiskey barrels to select independent brewers to utilize for making craft beers. This year, Rahr & Sons brewed batches of its Winter Warmer beer to a higher strength to withstand the alcohol content in the whiskey barrels as this is the first time that Rahr & Sons has aged 100 percent of its BBAWW in barrels, rather than blending. The result is a stronger flavor profile.

A bronze medal winner at the 2015 U.S. Open Beer Championship, BBAWW has notes of fresh American oak, dark malts, English hops and vanilla. It will be available in canned 4-packs in areas where Rahr & Sons is distributed.

Uniquely, Jack Daniel’s oversees its barrel-making process from start to finish. Crafted from American White Oak, the wood is toasted and charred to coax the wood’s natural sugars out and caramelize them. The barrels are used once to mature the Tennessee whiskey before being reutilized by craft brewers, hot sauce makers and Scotch whisky distillers.

“Jack Daniel’s has a storied history as the first registered distillery in the country,” said Rahr & Sons owner Fritz Rahr. “We are thrilled to work with such a recognizable brand and utilize their whiskey barrels to create our delicious, bold Bourbon Barrel Aged Winter Warmer.”

As part of the barrel program, Jack Daniel’s produced a video about Rahr & Sons’ process of brewing BBAWW to promote the beer’s launch.

In addition to BBAWW, Rahr & Sons will release Angry Santa in November, and it will be canned in 4-packs for the first time. Mulling spices, fresh vanilla bean and honey are added to Winter Warmer to create a dark, malty brew reminiscent of gingerbread cookies. Angry Santa will be available in areas where Rahr & Sons is distributed.
