After a one-year hiatus, Firestone Walker Brewing Company’s seasonal Oaktoberfest makes its packaged return this month in a dashing new 16-ounce can format. “We brewed a single batch of Oaktoberfest for select draft accounts last year, but that was it,” said Brewmaster Matt Brynildson. “It’s cool to have this beer back in the package, particularly in this new four-pack. You might be tempted to retire your stein and quaff it straight from the can.”

Simon Thorpe Departs Duvel USA

Simon Thorpe, the president of Duvel Moortgat USA, has resigned and will be replaced by Jeff Krum, who currently serves as Boulevard Brewing’s vice president of corporate affairs. Thorpe, who has served as the president and CEO of Duvel USA since 2009, will continue in an advisory capacity through the end of August, the company said.

New Belgium Releases 4 Beers for Fall

New Belgium Brewing has four new releases to help make the fall transition a little easier to bear. The beers include Pumpkick, a fall festival favorite; Le Terroir, one of New Belgium’s favorite wood-aged sours; Bretta IPA, which crosses wild Brettanomyces yeast with fruity hop varieties; and Fruit Fly, a refreshing stainless steel sour.

Short’s Brewing Company of Bellaire and Elk Rapids announces distribution of Psychedelic Cat Grass, a triple dry hopped American India Pale Ale. Billed as a “Without Delay IPA,” Short’s plans to package and distribute the beer within 24 hours; allowing customers to enjoy this beer on the same day it was packaged, resulting in out-of-this world freshness.

Fort Collins Brewery and Verboten Brewing to Release Collaboration Brew

On August 25th, Fort Collins Brewery (FCB) will be releasing the third installment of their Hybrid Series, Stout Collaborate & Listen, a collaboration brew with Verboten Brewing. “We always love collaborating with friends in our craft brew community,” said Verboten Head Brewer Josh Grenz. “We count FCB as good friends and a staple brewery. We both make high quality consistent beers, so it was fun to come up with something together.” This continuation of the Hybrid Series blends two styles with inspirations drawn from FCB’s Shot Down Chocolate Stout and Verboten’s Pure Imagination Oatmeal Stout. The result, a Steam Coffee Stout.

It’s been more than four years since San Diego’s Green Flash Brewing first announced its intent to build a secondary brewing facility on the East Coast and the company has finally set an official grand opening date. Green Flash today said it would open its 58,000 sq. ft. brewery in Virginia Beach, Va. on Nov. 13, marking the occasion with a series of events, the company said via a press release today.

John Cochran, who last month sold Terrapin Beer Company to MillerCoors, is diving headfirst back into the beer business with a new craft brewery venture in Asheville, North Carolina. Using proceeds from the sale of Terrapin, Cochran said he has purchased the assets of Altamont Brewing and will rebrand the company as UpCountry Brewing.
