King Louie Toffee Stout was created in collaboration with Bissinger’s Handcrafted Chocolatier of St. Louis. The velvety stout is full-bodied and was developed using a proprietary toffee blend that’s ideal for the brewing process and has hints of caramelized sugar and vanilla. It is brewed with Magnum hops and a variety of malts to create the perfect balance between soft chocolate, caramel and roasted notes that highlight the toffee flavor. King Louie is 6.3 percent alcohol by volume, 26 IBUs and will be priced at parity with other O’Fallon brands. It will be available in six-packs and on draught November through March 2015.
O’Fallon originally partnered with Bissinger’s in 2008 to brew Cocoa Cream Stout and has since held a variety of chocolate and beer pairing events with the chocolatier.
“Developing King Louie Toffee Stout with Bissinger’s has been really exciting,” said Jim Gorczyca, O’Fallon’s president and CEO. “We have always been interested in working with unique ingredients to develop new styles of beer, and Bissinger’s was a perfect fit for this project. King Louie hits shelves in a few weeks, and we think craft beer drinkers are really going to love it.”
Imperial Pumpkin is the latest in O’Fallon’s Brewer’s Stash series. In a new approach to its well-known Pumpkin beer, it was developed using a new recipe and is brewed as a Wheat wine, a style similar to Barleywines. While Wheat wine and Barleywines are big and malty, with rich, toasty malt and subtle toffee flavors, Wheat wine uses wheat as its base malt instead of barley, adding a creamy depth and mouthfeel to the beer.
Imperial Pumpkin focuses more on the spices of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and Madagascar Vanilla, which helps it taste even more like a slice of Pumpkin Pie than the original. Imperial Pumpkin is 10 percent alcohol by volume and 50 IBUs. It is available on draught and in 750 ml bottles through November.
“The demand for our original pumpkin beer continues to grow,” said Gorczyca. “The new Imperial Pumpkin is a new twist on our original beer with its own unique taste.”
