TRUCKEE, Calif. – Drink beer, save the planet. Or at least that’s the idea behind the recent collaboration between FiftyFifty Brewing Co. and Protect Our Winters (POW) as part of the CANS FOR COMMUNITY project. This latest partnership supports the non-profit founded by local legend and pro snowboarder Jeremy Jones, whose mission is to lead the fight against climate change through educational initiatives, political advocacy and community-based activism.
“We’ve known Jeremy and Tiffany for a long time, and their passion for the community and for doing the right thing is inspiring,” said FiftyFifty Co-Founder and President Alicia Barr. “We are excited and proud to support the tremendous efforts they are making with fighting climate change in our own small way.”
The brew for this collaboration is STORM CHASER, and is a delicious lightly hopped lager. “This is awesome on so many levels. I have always been a fan of FiftyFifty Brewing and have become friends with Andy and Alicia. Seeing them bring this idea to reality has been really impressive” said Jeremy Jones, founder and President of POW. “Watching the first beers come off the line here in Truckee was surreal. Having their support to both raise awareness and money for Protect Our Winters is an honor. As someone who follows the current state of Climate Change closely, it can be daunting. Thankfully I now have an awesome beer to take the edge off things.”
STORM CHASER is a classic German lager, brewed with Saphir hops, giving the beer sweet citrusy notes and hints of tangerine. In addition to being the perfect “après” beer after crushing it on the slopes or a great day out in the backcountry, a portion of the proceeds from every can goes directly back to Protect Our Winters to support their efforts in advocating for meaningful action against climate change.
Members of Protect Our Winters were on site to help with the canning of STORM CHASER at FiftyFifty’s new production facility in Truckee and plans are in the works for an event in January at FiftyFifty to continue to promote awareness and support the cause.
“It was exciting to be a part of the first canning of STORM CHASER at their new production brewery. It’s impressive to see what Alicia and Andy have created here in Truckee through their passion for beer and hard work. It is equally as impressive that they choose to give back to our community through sales of specialty seasonal beers,” said Tiffany Jones of POW. “At POW we are lucky enough to be the recipients of this new beer – a perfect balance for after riding the mountain, light but with lots of depth and flavor.”
16-ounce cans of STORM CHASER will start hitting the shelves Tuesday, December 19th and can be found at neighborhood markets throughout Truckee and North Tahoe, as well as at FiftyFifty’s Pub & Pilot Brewery location in Truckee.
