Asheville Brewing Company Tweaks Recipe for Lemon Space Dog American Wheat Ale

Asheville, NC — Asheville Brewing Company debuts a new look and lightly tweaked recipe for Lemon Space Dog American wheat beer just in time for refreshing summer deliciousness.

The brew team adds fresh lemon zest to the boil to gently add to the citrus aromas and flavors created by a flavorful dose of Lemondrop hops. Flaked wheat makes this thirst-quenching brew perfectly balanced and easy to drink at 5.3% ABV.

Lemon Space Dog Wheat Ale is named in honor of Laika, the first living animal to go into orbit, aboard the Sputnik 2 in 1957. She was also called Limonchik, which translates as “lemon,” because of the color of her coat. Soviet scientists chose stray dogs, whom they felt were best equipped to endure the rigors and stresses of space travel, to go into outer space throughout the 1950s and 60s.

Lemon Space Dog has been available on draft since mid-May, both at Asheville Brewing locations and other bars, restaurants, and watering holes. Look for it in the new blue 12-ounce cans starting this week at your local grocery, convenience, or bottle stores. This beer will only be available in the 828.

Grab a 6-pack of Lemon Space Dog to take on your outdoor summer adventures and raise a can to Laika!

About Asheville Brewing Company
Asheville’s third craft brewery opened in 1998 as a mash-up pizza joint, second-run movie theater, and brewpub, all wrapped up in a bright, happy, family-friendly space. The brewpub’s popularity with both locals and visitors enabled a second location, including a 15-barrel brew house, to open in downtown Asheville in 2006. Asheville Brewing installed Western North Carolina’s first in-house canning line in 2011. The Merrimon Avenue mothership’s original 7-barrel system joined the Coxe Avenue brewery in early 2016, consolidating all brewing operations under one roof. The brew crew produced 6,500 barrels of beer in 2016, up from 1,200 barrels in 2011. Asheville Brewing Company’s flagship and one-off brews are distributed on draft, in 12-ounce cans, and in special release 22-ounce bottles throughout Western North Carolina via family-owned wholesaler, Budweiser of Asheville.
