Ohio Allagash fans rejoice: The Portland, Maine-based craft brewery is headed back to the Buckeye State.
Allagash has partnered with Premium Beverage Supply to distribute its core portfolio of beers in Ohio, 20 years after the brewery pulled out of the state.
Allagash White will be available at retailers in 12 oz. can 6- and 12-packs, and kegs, “anchoring” Allagash’s lineup, according to a press release. Other offerings headed to Ohio include Tripel (12 oz. bottle 6-packs and kegs), Curieux (12 oz. bottle 4-packs and kegs) and Allagash’s rotating House Series, including Ski House, Surf House and Haunted House (12 oz. can 6- and 12-packs and kegs).
“Located in the middle of the country, Ohio has always been blessed with the best craft beer offerings from the West and East Coast, as well as everything in between,” Premium Beverage Supply director of sales Charlie Steffy said in the release. “However, there has been one glaring brand missing in Ohio – Allagash Brewing Company.
“Allagash White is not only the most awarded white ale in the world, it is the most iconic. In the craft beer world, Allagash is understood to be the standard for white ale. As the craft beer industry has gone a bit wild with creative flavors and over-the-top styles, Allagash White is a beacon for those of us who want a true classic.”
Allagash has slowly been re-expanding its distribution footprint after considerable retrenchment in the mid-2000s. Ohio was part of those early-aughts cuts, as Allagash turned its resources and attention to markets with higher demand, such as the East Coast, Chicago and California.
Recent re-expansion began in 2020 with the addition of Wisconsin, followed by Florida and statewide distribution in Illinois in 2021. Things ramped up in 2024, with the addition of Minnesota in November, and Colorado in December, creating “the largest distribution footprint for the Maine-based beer brand in nearly 15 years,” according to the release.
“After a long time away, I’m very excited to be able to come back to Ohio,” Allagash founder Rob Tod said in the release. “I have such fond memories of the people, and the beer culture there. With the quality of Allagash White the best it has ever been, and our current beer lineup, I think we’re in a better position than ever to really resonate with Ohio’s craft beer fans.”
Revisit Tod’s appearance on the Brewbound Podcast earlier this year to hear him discuss the brewery’s recent market expansion strategy.
Allagash was the 22nd largest Brewers Association-defined craft brewery in 2021, producing 109,304 barrels of beer – a 9% decline compared to 2023 volumes.
The company is the 46th largest brewery in NIQ-tracked off-premise channels, ranked by year-to-date (YTD) dollar sales, which are up 0.3% YTD, while volume, measured in case sales, is flat, according to data shared by 3 Tier Beverages.
