PORTLAND, Ore. – Widmer Brothers Brewing is adding PDX Pils to its array of award-winning packaged beers. The hoppy Pilsner will join the brewery’s year-round line up and will be available in six-packs and on draft throughout Oregon and Washington.

PDX Pils was originally brewed as an experimental small-batch beer for the Widmer Brothers Pub in 2015; it quickly became a fan favorite, winning a gold medal at the Oregon Beer Awards in 2016, and the brewery continued brewing it regularly throughout 2016 exclusively for the pub.

“PDX Pils took off after we introduced it at the Pub in late 2015,” said Widmer Brothers’ Lead Innovation Brewer Corey Blodgett, who created the recipe. “Our Pub really acts as an incubator for us and some beers, like PDX Pils, have sold better than some of us initially expected. Once we started brewing PDX Pils, we couldn’t stop because our guests kept asking for it. It was pretty clear we had a winner on our hands with this one early on.”

The Portland Trail Blazers—longtime Widmer Brothers partners—are helping the brewery launch the beer with a PDX Pils Launch Party, when the Blazers host the Milwaukie Bucks on March 21, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. The party, which starts at 6:00 p.m., is being held at the newly revamped Widmer Brothers Bar on the 100 level concourse in the Moda Center. Rob Widmer, several Widmer Brothers brewers, and select Blazers alumni will be in attendance, and free samples will be poured.

PDX Pils is crisp, bright, and approachable, and it is hopped to give it a restrained bitterness with pronounced citrusy hop notes.

About Widmer Brothers Brewing

Widmer Brothers Brewing helped create the Pacific Northwest craft beer movement in 1984 when founders Kurt and Rob Widmer, then in their 20s, began brewing unique interpretations of traditional German beer styles. In 1986, Widmer Brothers Brewing introduced the original American-style Hefeweizen, which elevated the brewery to national acclaim. Since then, the brewery’s iconic Hefe has grown to become Oregon’s favorite craft beer. For more than three decades, Widmer Brothers has continued to push the boundaries of craft beer. Based in Portland, Oregon, the brewery currently brews a variety of beers including Hefe, Upheaval IPA, Steel Bridge Porter, Drop Top Amber, Replay IPA, PDX Pils, and a full seasonal lineup. Additionally, the brewery continues to make a series of limited edition, small-batch beers available in Oregon and at the Widmer Brothers Pub in North Portland.
