Craft Brew Alliance made good on last week’s promise to revisit its brewpub strategy, yesterday announcing plans to shift away from a restaurant-focused brewpub model at the Widmer Brothers brewery in Portland, Oregon. In a post on the brand’s Facebook page, CBA said it would eliminate its full-service kitchen to make way for expanded small-batch brewing capabilities inside of a recently built 10-barrel innovation brewery that opened about 15 months ago.

Widmer Brothers Brewing is celebrating the completion of a newly installed CO2 recovery system at its Portland brewery on North Russell Street, becoming the first Oregon brewer to close the CO2 loop. The system, built in partnership with ICC Engineering, is another step forward in the brewery’s ongoing commitment to setting the industry bar in sustainability.

Craft Brew Alliance has officially opened its new Widmer Brothers innovation brewery, relocating the small-batch operation from a cramped corner of Portland’s Moda Center to the company’s primary brewing facility about one mile away.
