Wartega Brewing to Release New England-Style IPA with Ginger

BROOKLYN — Wartega, Brooklyn’s herb, spice and fruit beer brewery is releasing its first canned New England-style IPA, with a Wartega twist. “Ginger Hoopla” is a pint-sized hazebro palate-pleaser brewed with hops from down under to give you that thick, juicy flavor you love with the addition of ginger for a bit of a zip and zing!

Historically ginger was used in ferments and drinks to ale tummy troubles and is said to provide energy. Ever wonder why the ginger man runs as fast as he does? It’s the ginger baked into him, yes it was! Wartega brewed that lore right onto this spunky beer. Rumor also has it that heavy IPAs can make you tired; hops make you lethargic and alcohol brings you down. Now you can combat the DIPA downers with a little ginger zip in America’s favorite style.

The addition of ginger root gives this beer a bold flavor that makes it different from any IPA you’ve tasted before. It will stand out from other hop monsters on the shelf. Yes, it has the haze. Yes, it has the tropical juicy notes and a creamy, malty appeal. But the ginger brings it to a whole new level. You’ll notice the ginger on the aroma first. It’s reminiscent of spicy, ginger candies. The ginger flavor is balanced with the sweet aromas of the beer and lends a subtle bite to complement the moderate hop bitterness.

“Before jumping into the IPA game, we thought long and hard about how to make it uniquely Wartega. It had to be bold, but it also had to be familiar. The balance we achieved holds true to the NEIPA style that everyone loves and the ginger makes it something special,” Merlin U Ward, brewer and co-founder of Wartega said. “If you like IPAs you’ll love this beer, and is you love spiced beers, you’ll love this beer. It’s the best of both worlds.”

You can grab this brew across the city at five can release pop-up events at your favorite craft beer bar in Downtown, Uptown, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. Each location will feature Wartega’s line of brews and have cans available for sale. Catch it while you can!
