Steam Bell Beer Works to Open Second Brewery

Richmond, VA — The family that brought you Chesterfield’s first production craft brewery, Steam Bell Beer Works, today announced the expansion of their award-winning brand with the launch of their second brewery, Canon & Draw Brewing Co. Located in the heart of ‘The Fan’ neighborhood, a classic yet vibrant community that is a significant part of the quilt that is Richmond, the new craft brewery is expected to open in Fall 2017 and will be the first brewery in that neighborhood.

Located at 1527 & 1529 W. Main Street, Canon & Draw Brewing Co. will be in good company with other local favorites like Foo Dog, Butcher, Bellytimber, Heritage and Postbellum. The brewery will open with eight beers on tap, including a selection of lagers, saisons and IPAs. In addition to an exclusive line of craft beers, customers can also enjoy a seasonal featured menu, regular live music performances, hot food options, a public tasting room and a private event space that can be rented out for special occasions.

At the helm of the new brewery are siblings, Brad and Brittany Cooper, Chesterfield County natives who both now call Richmond proper home. Founder and Head Brewer, Brad Cooper, will expand his current role as Steam Bell Brewmaster to oversee production and beer portfolio development for Canon & Draw. Brittany Cooper, a partner at Steam Bell, will be leading all brand, partnership and operational efforts at Canon & Draw. Their father, Tom Cooper serves as the Director of Sales and their mother, Connie Cooper, serves as the Director of Finance.

“Customers should expect a different portfolio of beers than they’ve become accustomed to at Steam Bell,” said Brad Cooper, Founder of Steam Bell Beer Works. “We are excited to continue to innovate and experiment with flavors and offerings as we grow our brand in the heart of Richmond, a city and community of people that mean so much to our family.”

The meaning behind the name of the new brewery comes from the French word for barrel (canon) and one of the primary tools used in the barrel making process, the draw knife. An opening is tentatively planned for early fall 2017 with more details forthcoming.
