Silver City Releases 20th Anniversary Series

Silver City MacFarlane's

Bremerton, WA – 2016 marks the Twentieth Anniversary of Silver City Brewery. To commemorate the occasion, we present our 20th Anniversary Series of beer releases. Some are vintage throwback recipes harkening back to our original, launch lineup. Others are recipes of the future, yet still inspired by our past.

MacFarlane’s Scotch Ale

MacFarlane’s is the first of these 20th Anniversary series releases. In the fall of 1996, Silver City opened with MacFarlane’s Scotch Ale as part of the original line-up. With Scottish lineage & history in mind, this peaty, malt-forward beer was a craft pioneer for the style and a precursor to today’s Fat Scotch Ale.

Scotch ale was first brewed throughout Scotland during the middle ages. By the 16th century, this powerfully strong and malty brew had gained an international reputation.

True to age-old Scottish brewing techniques- a cooler, slower fermentation followed by extended cold aging- creates a strong ale that is incredibly smooth and easy to drink.

“Malt is the dominant feature of Macfarlane’s Scotch Ale. Six different malts are blended to give richness and depth. A dash of peated malt lends a hint of smokiness reminiscent of single malt Scotch whisky,” said Don Spencer,Silver City’s Brewmaster.

Macfarlane’s Scotch Ale makes its triumphant return to Silver City Brewery Taproom and Silver City Restaurant & Ale house on Friday, January 8th.

Silver City Bourbon Barrel

Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout

A batch of the black, roasted monster that is our Imperial Stout was aged for 12 months in Heaven Hill Kentucky bourbon barrels. The charred oak interior of the barrels create a very distinct, and pleasingly warm bourbon and vanilla-like oak character.

“It’s been very exciting to see the barrel-aged series take on a life of its own the past few years,” said Silver City Brewery founder Scott Houmes, “What began as a fun experiment among brewers has become a staple with our most die hard fans. Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout is the first of several barrel-aged releases to look forward to in 2016.”

Bourbon Barrel Aged Imperial Stout will be initially released on January 14th, 2pm, at Silver City Brewery Taproom and Silver City Restaurant & Ale House. The beer will be available in limited, foil-finished 500ml bottles, as well as on draft for a brief window.

500ml bottles will also be available in certain specialty stores throughout Western Washington.
