Sierra Nevada’s 2012 Beer Camp Variety Pack Arrives Mid-August

Sierra Nevada announced (via it’s facebook page) yesterday that the second installment of the Beer Camp Variety Pack offerings will hit shelves in mid-August.

This year’s mixed 12-pack includes four different offerings – Oatmeal Stout, Imperial Pilsner, Floral IPA and Imperial Red Ale.

Brewery spokesman Bill Manley said that 1,000 barrels of each variety were produced and expects most markets to receive product (depending upon state ABV laws). He also said the project is one of the most labor-intensive undertakings the brewery does.

“By in large, we are still the ‘Pale Ale’ brewery to most people and I think it is important we do things that showcase the breadth and depth of our skills,” he said. “It’s a lot of work but it is also a whole bunch of fun.”

The packages are currently being assembled by hand and are scheduled to ship within the next two weeks. This year’s selections were narrowed down from 27 different Beer Camp offerings produced during the 12 months previous to November 2011. The pack has a suggested retail price of $18.99.

Beer Descriptions:

Oatmeal stout — 9%

This big oatmeal stout is midnight black in color-with a big, roasty, mocha-like aroma. It has a silky body from the use of rolled oats, and a round and lasting finish. Perfect as an after dinner treat.

Imperial Red — 8.1%

This Imperial Red Ale takes the intense hop profile found in a traditional double IPA and turns up the malt. It has big aromatic hop notes of grapefruit, peach, and melon-balanced by a smooth and surprisingly robust malt body.

Floral IPA — 5.9%

This unique take on the traditional IPA style pairs the bold and intense aromas of whole-cone hop “flowers” with aromatic natural rose hips and petals for complex aromas and unexpected flavors.

Imperial Pilsner — 5.6%

Packing a big hop-forward punch and bright crisp finish, this golden pilsner features a hearty dose of “sticky,” resinous Crystal and Pacifica dry hops, which balance the light-bodied yet complex malt backbone.
