Libertine Brewing Company Partners with Sea Shepherd on 40th Anniversary Beer

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – In honor of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society’s 40th anniversary, the Libertine Brewing Company has partnered with the anti-poaching organization on a limited-edition beer.

The San Luis Obispo-based Libertine, known for its eclectic and barrel-aged beers, will release the Sea Shepherd beer to the public on May 7th at its 9000-sq. ft. production facility and restaurant/bar with Sea Shepherd representatives on hand.

Titled “Sea Shepherd,” the 40th anniversary beer is a Blood Orange Gose whose ingredients include kelp foraged from The Morro Bay Estuary and blood oranges sourced from a local ranch. The result is a traditionally salty gose with a citrus twist.

Proceeds from every bottle of Sea Shepherd beer will be donated to the marine organization with the goal of raising funds and awareness for Sea Shepherd’s work in protecting the world’s Oceans.

“For forty years, Sea Shepherd has fought to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s Oceans,” said Libertine founder Tyler Clark. “Known for their ‘direct-action’ tactics, Sea Shepherd is fully committed to the survival of future generations. Inspired by this battle, The Libertine Brewing Company has created a beer that honors Sea Shepherd in authentic form.”

Sea Shepherd’s direct action was best observed on the long-running television series Whale Wars showcasing its disruption of Japanese whaling fleets in the Antarctic Ocean, and the recent limited series Ocean Warriors which chronicled its efforts to the save the vaquita porpoise from extinction in the Gulf of California.

“We are honored to be working with Libertine, whose love for the Ocean is as passionate as ours,” said Sea Shepherd C.O.O. David J. Hance. “By using ingredients from local land and water sources, Libertine has an incentive to protect the habitat around it, while raising awareness and funds for non-profit organizations like ours.”
