Ciderboys Releases La Vida Sangria

STEVENS POINT, Wis. — Live the La Vida Sangria life with Ciderboys’ latest fruitful pairing, a delicious mix of apple cider with citrus and sangria flavors.

Long a popular drink in Spain and Portugal, especially in summer, traditional sangria is a wine punch made by mixing red wine with citrus fruits and spices.  This festive cocktail inspired Ciderboys La Vida Sangria, a limited-release carbonated hard cider introduced at retail this month.

“La Vida Sangria is the marriage of the clean, crisp taste of the Washington state apples we use in our cider with the subtle tartness of red wine and the citrus flavors of fresh lemons and oranges,” said Chief Cidermaker Gabe Hopkins. “When you try La Vida Sangria, the flavor leads with a rich, red-wine note followed by hints of orange and lemon, and then a sweet, crisp apple-cider finish.”

In a first for Ciderboys, La Vida Sangria is packaged in clear glass bottles to showcase its appealing ruby-red hue. The word “sangria” is derived from the Latin “sanguis,” meaning blood, and refers to the blood-red color of most Spanish or Portuguese sangrias.

La Vida Sangria is the Ciderboys’ fifth limited release fruitful pairing, following Royal Blueberry and Blackberry Wild in 2016, Cherry Jubilee and Zen Berry last year. La Vida Sangria is available in six-packs and on draft wherever Ciderboys’ products are sold. But as a limited release product, La Vida Sangria will only be around while supplies last.

“La Vida Sangria is faithful to Ciderboys’ mission and vision of producing delicious and refreshing fruitful pairings by blending unexpected fruit flavors with the crisp taste of apple,” said Julie Birrenkott, Ciderboys Marketing Director. “Sangria means fruit, and fruit is what Ciderboys is all about, so naturally we thought it was a great idea.”

Ciderboys Cider Co. delights hard-cider lovers with unique “fruitful pairings” that blend unexpected fresh fruit flavors with the crisp taste of apple cider. A subsidiary of the Stevens Point Brewery, the Ciderboys Cider Co. makes its carbonated hard ciders with natural fruit and apple juice from fresh Washington State apples. The apple juice is heated to pasteurize it, then fermented at cool temperatures in shining stainless steel tanks. Ciderboys is fermented with a hard-cider yeast imported from France, where hard ciders have quenched thirsts since the Middle Ages. The fermentation process is cool and slow, and takes approximately two weeks per batch. Once fermentation is complete, the cider runs through a filtration process that renders a clear, sparkling liquid. No sugar is added to Ciderboys products, which are naturallygluten free.

The Ciderboys family features First Press, a year-round traditional hard cider; Strawberry Magic, a year-round combination of fresh strawberries and cider; Ciderboys British Dry, a year-round English-style dry cider; seasonals Peach County, a pleasing blend of peaches and apples; Pineapple Hula, which pairs fresh Hawaiian pineapple with cider, Raspberry Smash, a fruitful pairing of crisp apple cider with raspberries;  Cranberry Road using fresh cranberries;  Mad Bark, spiced with cinnamon, and Grand Mimosa, made with juicy oranges.
