Brewers Association Names 3 At-Large Members Appointed to Board of Directors

The Brewers Association (BA) announced yesterday three at-large board members appointed to its board of directors for 2022.

They include:

  • Pamela Brulotte, founder of Leavenworth, Washington-based Icicle Brewing and Munchen Haus Bavarian Grill and Beer Garden;
  • Peter Skrbek, chief financial officer, Bend, Oregon-headquartered Deschutes Brewery;
  • Fred Matt, president, Utica, New York-based Saranac Brewery/Matt Brewing Company.

The new term will be the second for Skrbek and Matt. Joining them is Cassie Salinas, a resident of Everett, Washington who will represent the American Homebrewers Association.

At-large board members – referred to as “non-designated directors” in the BA’s bylaws – are nominated by elected board members and must win a majority vote. They serve two-year terms, and are limited to two consecutive terms. The bylaws stipulate that the board may contain between zero and six at-large members.

The rest of the board consists of “designated directors,” so called because they belong to one of four membership classes: packaging brewers, pub brewers, taproom brewers and homebrewers. Seven directors represent the packaging class, four represent pubs, and two each represent taprooms and the American Homebrewers Association (AHA).

Last week, the BA announced the election of five designated directors to represent packaging, pub and taproom brewers:

  • Tomme Arthur, co-founder of The Lost Abbey and Port Brewing in San Marcos, California (packaging);
  • Garrett Marrero, CEO and co-founder of Maui Brewing in Kihei, Hawaii (packaging);
  • Leah Cheston, owner of Right Proper Brewing in Washington, D.C. (pub);
  • Jason Lavery, president and founding brewer of Lavery Brewing in Erie, Pennsylvania (pub);
  • Holly Redding, managing member of Winchester Brew Works in Winchester Virginia (taproom).

Directors moving off the board in February include Leslie Henderson (Lazy Magnolia Brewing Co., Kiln, Mississippi), Larry Horwitz (TWN20 Craft Brewery, Louisville, Kentucky), Jose Mallea (Biscayne Bay Brewing, Miami, Florida) and Jill Marilley (AHA appointee).

Committee assignments and officer roles will be announced during the board’s February meeting.

    • Dan Kleban (Maine Beer Company, Freeport, Maine);
    • Virginia Morrison (Second Chance Beer Company, San Diego, California);
