Backwoods Brewing Partners with HOTLIPS Soda


Portland, Ore. – HOTLIPS Soda, in partnership with Backwoods Brewing Company, is releasing the second in its series of collaborative brews. Debuting on Thursday, April 23rd, the limited edition Totally Radler is a crisp blend of Backwoods’ Pale Ale and HOTLIPS Lemon Soda.

The Totally Radler represents the second in a rotating series of Radler- and Shandy-style drinks that HOTLIPS will be producing in partnership with local breweries. Totally Radler will be on tap while the supply lasts at all six HOTLIPS restaurants in Portland, and will be distributed to other local pubs by Point Blank Distributing of Portland.

“After the success of our first collaborative Radler, we knew we had a winning idea,” said David Yudkin, co-owner of HOTLIPS Pizza + Soda. “We’re making friends with our fellow craft brewers, and pleasing the taste buds of Portlanders, too.”

“We’re so pleased to blend the bright, lemon flavor of HOTLIPS soda with our own pale ale,” said Jordan Tanasse of Backwoods Brewing. “Pairing two distinctive Northwest products from opposite sides of the Columbia creates the ultimate Cascadia combo.”

Backwoods Brewing’s Clear Cut Pale Ale is made with a blend of hops from the Northwest, Germany and Australia, with a brilliant hop aroma and light, crisp finish. HOTLIPS’ Lemon Soda is bright and brisk with soft bubbles, just sweet enough to round out the pucker. The combination is the perfect balance of ale and lemon, and not at all too sweet.


Founded in 1984, HOTLIPS is a Portland family-owned business and a respected, iconic local brand. Currently employing 160 people in six pizza restaurants, a commissary kitchen, a craft soda-brewing operation and a full calendar of off-site and catering events, HOTLIPS demonstrates a long-standing dedication to sustainability, quality, innovation and community leadership. Backwoods Brewing was founded in 2012, and is located in Carson, Washington, just an hour from Portland. It is family owned and operated, with the goal to provide great beer and jobs to our small local community. The brewery has grown in size, starting from a single barrel brew pub to now a 20-barrel system, with an estimated output of 5000 barrels in 2015. Backwoods specializes in Northwest-style ales, sourcing as many local ingredients as possible. The beer can be found on draft at local bars and restaurants, as well as bottles at many local grocery chains and independent stores. The pub is open 7 days a week and offers a great variety of food and drink for the whole family.
