In early 2016 customers received a clue that the familiar look of Sprecher Brewery’s beer labels was about to transform. For its award-winning winter seasonal, the familiar shiny label bearing a coat of arms and the name Winter Brew had been replaced by a fun depiction of old man winter and the words Winter Lager.

Sprecher Brewery just released Winter Lager, a highly awarded Munich style Dunkel fans seek out every year. Winter Lager has all the smooth dark roasted malt goodness that makes it a perfect beer for cold winter nights. “Dunkel” means dark, and the darkness is apparent in the deep mahogany color as well as kilned malt flavors reminiscent of roasted coffee and nuts. Soft and elegant with a hint of spice, this World Beer Cup gold medalist provides comforting contrast to winter’s occasionally harsh conditions.

In the 1970s and 80s, Malt Duck was a very popular adult beverage. Although it disappeared from store shelves in the 1990s, it lives on in various social media platforms including facebook, blogs and chatrooms that recount fond memories and good times featuring Malt Duck. Aware not only of the nostalgia for Malt Duck but also the expressed desire for its return by an ardent fan base, Sprecher Brewing Company worked closely with its distributors to see if something could be done to revive the brand.

Sprecher Brewing Company will begin its annual Whole Cone Hop Series with Wisconsin Pale Lager, or WIPL, so named because it is dry hopped with just-off- the-bine fresh Wisconsin Cascade hop cones grown by members of the Wisconsin Hop Exchange.

Milwaukeeans enjoy their parks, no doubt about it. However, during the winter months many parks are underutilized. The Milwaukee North Sunrise Rotary Club (MNSRC) is trying to change the status quo in that regard. On Saturday, February 7th, the MNSRC is hosting Winterfest at the Brown Deer Park Clubhouse, 7835 N. Green Bay Road. From 10am until 4pm, participate in free winter fun for kids of all ages.
