Portland Brewing Donates to Sandy River Basin Watershed Council

PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Brewing has announced a donation to the Sandy River Basin Watershed Council for the sum of $3,000. The donation was a result from a portion of sales of ZigZag River Lager sold this year in July — also known as Oregon Craft Beer Month — one of the highest months for beer sales in Oregon.

The partnership began earlier this year when Portland Brewing announced that its ZigZag River Lager would be available year-round. “We thought that the Sandy River Basin Watershed council would be a fantastic partner, because they specifically take care of the river our beer is named after,” says Ryan Pappe, head brewer for Portland Brewing. “We couldn’t have asked for a better relationship with a partner who helps keep water that we brew with clean and our rivers healthy.”

The donation will support the Sandy River Basin Watershed Council’s work to protect and restore the Sandy River’s prime wild salmon habitat through improvements such as tree plantings, removal of invasive species, and re-connecting floodplains.

“The Sandy and its tributary, the Bull Run Rivers, run through the heart of our region’s favorite landscapes, our culture, community health and every beer in Beervana,” says Steve Wise, executive director of the Sandy River Basin Watershed Council. “Our restoration work relies on community participation, so it’s great to have Portland Brewing as a partner that truly appreciates the value of a healthy watershed. Not only did they help us clean up a well-loved state park along the lower river, but beer lovers’ purchases generated a financial investment in a healthy Sandy for the future.”
