Drinks Americas Expands Mexican Beer Brand in Austin

LOS ANGELES, CA — Drinks Americas DKAM +1.91% , the exclusive United States broker for leading premium authentic Mexican beers currently present in over 32 states, today is excited to announce that distributor Austin Specialty Foods is leading the mission to bring authentic “real Mexican beer,” defined as brewed and owned by Mexicans rather than multi-national European beer, back to the U.S. market starting with the launch of the Company’s premium authentic brewed-in-Mexico beer brands, Mexicali Cerveza and Day of the Dead Craft Beer, in Austin.

Austin Specialty Foods is the only dedicated specialty food and beverage distributor in the greater Austin area to offer dry and refrigerated distribution services across multiple categories including the Travis Bros. Texas Takery┬« (in-store, fresh baked goods), healthy snacking options, and the Company’s exclusive “real Mexican beer” brands—Mexicali Cerveza and Day of the Dead Craft Beer.

Drinks Americas’ Mexicali is an iconic Mexican beer brand that is independently owned by a Mexican family. Shortly thereafter, the family reinstituted the original formula and taste that brought it to national prominence within Mexico and southern parts of California. While not as known as its iconic counterpart, the Company’s Day of the Dead Craft Beer is an award-winning line brewed and bottled straight from Mexico. Growing in popularity, the quality and packaging of Day of the Dead Craft Beer pays homage to Mexican culture and heritage, and is a product people of Mexican descent can feel proud to purchase and enjoy.

In an effort to reestablish national pride with Mexicans across the nation, Austin SF will be taking charge of the “real Mexican beer” movement focused on encouraging city, state and nationwide adoption of the Company’s Mexican beer brands—Mexicali and Day of the Dead. Currently, both brands are featured on its website, noting the extreme care given to the brewing process at Cerveceria Mexicana, as well as each individual flavor and unique packaging of the Day of the Dead Craft Beer line.

Ben Erwin, Managing Partner of Austin Specialty Foods, said, “With such a heavy Mexican population in Texas, Mexicali is the authentic Mexican beer and Day of the Dead is the award-winning Mexican craft beer line that every Mexican should be proud of. We are thrilled to be the ones to bring ‘real Mexican beer’ back to Texas and to head up the movement nationwide. Already, we have placed both authentic premium Mexican beer brands in over 100 accounts in just two unseasonably cold weeks. Thus far, the response we’ve received from our customers and theirs has been great—and with zero advertising.”

Joseph Belli, VP of Sales, Day of the Dead Craft Beer, commented, “Austin Specialty Foods recognizes and appreciates the quality and opportunity we have in brewing, marketing and packaging, and providing the market with the ONLY ‘real Mexican beer’ brewed in Mexico and owned by Mexicans—and that means a lot to our team. We’re thrilled to have them head up the movement back to real Mexican beer beginning in trend-setting Austin and look forward to growing this movement nationwide.”

“Texas is an advantageous market for us given its high Mexican population and close proximity to our Mexican owned brewery. Located in Austin, known to be a highly visible trend-setting city, Austin SF will be instrumental in helping us re-ignite a passion for ‘real Mexican beer’—both iconic and craft—among the city’s trendy craft beer-following. We are happy to have them represent our brands and are excited to see their success in the market,” added Timothy Owens, CEO of Drinks Americas.
