Capital Brewery Helps Promote Henry Vilas Zoo Arctic Passage

Middleton, WI — Capital Brewery Co., Inc. recently unveiled Grizzly Bear Growler, a lager beer brewed and bottled in conjunction with the Henry Vilas Zoo to promote the construction of the Arctic Passage exhibit.

The beer is currently available in 22 ounce ‘bomber’ bottles in the Capital Brewery Gift House. A special celebration is scheduled for Thursday August 21, 2014 from 5pm to 9pm in the Capital Brewery Beer Garden. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the beer will be donated to the Henry Vilas Zoo. Music will be provided and food will be available for purchase.

Capital has supported a number of Vilas Zoo projects, including the Zoo Run Run. “A few months ago I was approached by Alison Prange, Executive Director of the Friends of the Henry Vilas Zoo, and asked if Capital would be interested in a joint marketing opportunity to promote the new Arctic Passage Exhibit,” stated Richard King, CFO of Capital Brewery. “It involves one of our award winning beers and the world renowned Henry Vilas Zoo, and we jumped at the chance to participate,” King said.

“We are pleased to be a part of this exciting endeavor” stated Scott Wiener, President of Capital Brewery. “It resonates well with our long standing support of the numerous community projects that we have been involved with over our thirty year history,” he added.

The beer is the fourth installment in Capital’s Sustainability Series of beer offerings including Lost Owl, Driftless Ale and Whistling Woodie. A portion of the proceeds from the Lost Owl went to the Wisconsin DNR. The Driftless Land Conservancy and Trout Unlimited each received a donation from Capital, and Capital shared proceeds of the Whistling Woodie beer sales with Ducks Unlimited. Next in line is Passenger Pigeon Ale, brewed and bottled in conjunction with the Wisconsin Society for Ornithology and Project Passenger Pigeon, to raise awareness of the demise of the passenger pigeon.

Founded on March 14, 1984, Capital brewed its first batch of beer in the spring of 1986. The company has received over 195 major awards in both domestic and international competitions in over 15 categories, and the beer has been available in cans since 1997. Capital was named Grand National Champion in the 2013 US Open Beer Championship, winning six medals.
