Second Line Brewing Names Shalanda Jackson Lead Brewer

NEW ORLEANS, LA — June 17, 2026 — Second Line Brewing, the Mid-City craft brewery and taproom known for its community-focused approach and bold New Orleans flavor, is proud to announce the hiring of Shalanda Jackson as its new Lead Brewer, effective July 1, 2026.

Jackson brings a strong brewing background and a hospitality-first mindset to the role. She joins Second Line from Urban South Brewery, where she brewed a wide range of beers, seltzers, and THC beverages, supported quality lab testing, and served as a community spokesperson at festivals and events. Earlier in her career, she worked as an assistant brewer at Village Brewing Company in New Jersey, managing raw material inventory, cellar operations, and quality control. She holds a Brewing Science Certification from St. Joseph's University and completed the World Brewing Academy's Concise Course in Brewing Technology through the Siebel Institute of Technology.

Beyond her technical credentials, Jackson has been an active voice in the craft beer community. She helped curate Barrels on the Bayou, the first Black beer festival in Louisiana; served as a panelist on “Multiculturalism in Tap” at the Craft Professional Brewers Conference; and will be a panelist at ESSENCE Festival for the “Let's Toast” panel. She is also a recipient of the Michael James Jackson Foundation brewing scholarship and a Pink Boots Society member.

In her new role, Jackson will work closely with Head Brewer Gar Hatcher, learning the day-to-day operations of the brewhouse and contributing to Second Line's growing portfolio of brews.

Jackson will also gain hands-on exposure to the business side of running a thriving brewery and taproom under the mentorship of Managing Partner Karen Logan, developing a well-rounded understanding of what keeps Second Line pouring.

As Second Line Brewing continues to expand its presence in the New Orleans craft beer scene, the addition of Jackson reflects the company's ongoing commitment to building a talented, dedicated team and serving its community with the beer and hospitality it's known for.

Second Line Brewing is located at 433 N. Bernadotte St. in New Orleans. The taproom features rotating house brews, an in-house kitchen through Second Line Provisions, and regular community events.
