Terrene Golden Russet Cider is now pouring at Terrene's tasting room, LARKS Home Kitchen Cuisine, and select Ashland locations
ASHLAND, Ore. (October 29, 2025) - Neuman Hotel Group, owners of the Ashland Springs Hotel and Lithia Springs Resort, has announced a new collaboration with locally owned Terrene Winery and Cidery to release a limited-edition hard cider made solely from heritage apples grown on the historic Neuman Farm in Ashland. Terrene Golden Russet Cider, a small-batch release available at Terrene's tasting room and LARKS Home Kitchen Cuisine at the Ashland Springs Hotel, gives guests a rare taste of Ashland's agricultural and culinary heritage.
The Neuman Farm sits on 17 acres overlooking Emigrant Creek, and is home to two rare cider apple varieties—the Golden Russet and Hudson's Golden Gem. These heirloom varieties were first used by local cider pioneer Roger Mansfield, who crafted a series of celebrated ciders in the early 2000s, including "Macbeth's Three Witches Cider," which was served at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Originally cultivated for their high sugar content, aromatic complexity, and signature russeted skins, the apples have a long history of producing award-winning ciders that helped put Southern Oregon on the craft cider map.
"The Neuman Farm orchard has always been a labor of love," said Becky Neuman, co-owner of Neuman Hotel Group and Neuman Farm, who purchased the orchard and the Ashland Springs Hotel in 1997 with her husband, Doug Neuman. "We've worked with several cider producers over the years, but this is the first time we've produced a cider made exclusively from our farm's apples. Terrene has done a wonderful job honoring the land, the fruit, and the farm's history."
Terrene Winery and Cidery, based in Ashland, Oregon, is an independent winery and cidery known for its small-batch sparkling wines, fine ciders, and co-ferments inspired by European and ancestral methods. Founded by Anders and Akina Johnson, Terrene is rooted in conscientious and sustainable winemaking, with a focus on showcasing the distinct characteristics of each varietal.
"There's something incredibly special about making a cider from a single orchard, especially one with this kind of history," said Anders Johnson, Terrene Winery and Cidery co-founder and cider maker. "Being part of the harvest—walking the rows and working alongside the people who've cared for this land for decades—was truly meaningful. We're proud to help carry this legacy forward."
"This collaboration is really about honoring the past while creating something new," said Steve Sacks, longtime orchard partner who connected Terrene Winery and Cidery with the Neuman team. "These apples were once the foundation for some of Oregon's most decorated ciders. Now, they're in the spotlight again—this time in a culinary setting where guests can fully appreciate their complexity and origin."
The orchard itself, certified organic for more than two decades, is a thriving habitat for bees, owls, deer, native birds, foxes, wild turkeys, and the occasional bear. It is cared for with the same commitment to stewardship that defines Neuman Hotel Group's hospitality ethos. Adjacent to the main orchard are an additional three acres of apples farmed by the Sacks family, forming a shared legacy of land care and agricultural collaboration.
Terrene Golden Russet Cider is now available on tap by the glass or in to-go bottles at Terrene Winery and Cidery, LARKS Home Kitchen Cuisine, Zi Spice, and select locations in Ashland.
