Ventura, CA — Surf Brewery, a small commercial craft brewery, open since 2011, with an onsite tasting room and homebrew shop, announced that they are releasing the third in their Seasonal American Wheat series for 2015, called Wahine, and named after the term used for a surf chick.   Certainly not a ‘chick’ beer, Grapefruit Wahine Wheat Ale has a subtle fruity flavor in a refreshing lighter beer at 5% ABV, 16 IBU and 4.5 SRM.

With Ventura County known for growing amazing fruit, Surf Brewery, has incorporated a few local options, lemon, strawberry and grapefruit, into a light American Wheat Ale, making a refreshing an indigenous brew. Los Angeles television station KCET voted the strawberry version one of the top summer beers in California!

The whole grapefruits came from Santa Paula Mud Creek Ranch and were zested by our friends at Ventura Limoncello.

Available on draft and in the bottle for the next few months, just in time for the hotter weather in Ventura County. Head dude and co-founder Bill Riegler says, “Although we have had hot weather all year round this year, normally September and October are the hottest months here in Ventura. We wanted a light refreshing beer to quench our thirst after a day at the beach. This is the first year we incorporated local grapefruits and we are very happy with the flavor. Come to the brewery to try, or visit your favorite bar or bottle shop”
