Stone Path Malt to Open Maltery and Taproom

WAREHAM, Mass. – Stone Path Malt co-founders Mark St. Jean and Michael Schroth bring a unique opportunity for the New England Craft Beer Market to Wareham, Mass. In its fourth year of operation, the company supplying custom imported malt to New England Craft Breweries and local homebrewers is expanding its business and set to open a new 30,000 square foot maltery and tap room, later this summer. The company will now provide locally crafted malt for brewers, visitor tours of the maltery and showcase beers on tap from their partners including local notables: Jack’s Abby Brewing, Wachusett Brewing Company, Down The Road Beer Co., New England Brewing Co. and more, all brewed with Stone Path Malt.

“What makes our business unique is that we can provide imported malt from Germany, locally crafted custom malt and an on-premise tap room setting where beer enthusiasts can learn about our malt and relate it to a world-class New England craft beer,” said Schroth. “It highlights the mission of locally crafted beer brewed with locally crafted malt,” he added.

Malt, referred to as “The Soul of Beer” is a key ingredient and one of four main ingredients craft brewers use in the beer making process. Malt is created by processing barley, wheat, or rye grains and was historically the first step in the beer brewing process.

Though Stone Path Malt has been operating its import and distribution business for over four years, the new malthouse with state-of-the-art malting system set to open this summer will offer a new experience for craft brewers and craft beer lovers alike. The malting system built by Kaspar Schulz in Bamberg, Germany will be available for contracting by appointment only for craft breweries seeking an opportunity to collaborate with Stone Path Malt and its maltster, Bryan Taylor, who will oversee malting production. Recently, Taylor spent time with colleagues at Stone Path Malt’s partner IREKS, GmbH located in Kulmbach, a city in the Bavarian state of Germany. IREKS, founded in 1856, is known worldwide for its custom, base and specialty malts used by brewers around the globe.

“The investment in our building, malting system and partnerships enables us to meet customer requirements and this includes supplying local malt with a level of quality, consistency, and scale,” St. Jean said.

The company’s tagline, “Choose Your Path,” highlights a key business principle: whether your journey is creating a new seasonal beer or crafting a year-round favorite, Stone Path Malt enables a certain and reliable path to the color, flavor, and aroma that uniquely defines your beer.

The tap room at Stone Path Malt will open for those of legal drinking age this summer followed by the fully operational malting system for brewers and tours early in the fall.
