Second Chance Beer Co. and Old Mission Beach Athletic Club Collaborate on Over-the-Line Lager

SAN DIEGO — Second Chance Beer Co. and the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club (OMBAC) announced a new, limited release collaboration beer – “Over-the-Line Lager” – to celebrate the 65th year of San Diego’s homegrown sporting event. This year’s Annual World Championship Over-the-Line (OTL) Tournament is set for July 14/15 and July 21/22 at Fiesta Island in Mission Bay Park.

“Over-the-Line Lager”is brewed with German pilsner malt and light floral German hops. It is cold and refreshing, goes great with fish tacos, and is best paired with warm sand, good friends and good times.

“This light, session lager is the perfect beer to seize, sip and enjoy with a bat in your hand and toes in the sand,” said Marty Mendiola, brewmaster and co-founder of Second Chance Beer Co. “You can enjoy a couple of pints or cans while playing OTL or watching the spectacle and still keep your eye on the ball.”

The annual (OTL) tournament is as San Diego as the beach on which it’s played. Every summer since 1954, thousands of players and spectators take over Fiesta Island. The sport originated in San Diego and the event was started by the OMBAC, whose mission is to enrich amateur sports and youth athletics.

“It’s about time San Diego’s signature sport had its own beer brewed right here in the capital of craft,” said Tom Doyle of the Old Mission Beach Athletic Club. “Over-the-Line Lager was brewed for just that reason and we were proud to collaborate with Second Chance. They know the sport and our mission. We can’t wait for everyone to taste it.”

“Over-the-Line Lager” will be available in 16oz cans, kegs and drafts at the tournament, Second Chance Beer Co. Tap Rooms in North Park and Carmel Mountain and a limited number of bars and stores across San Diego starting June 18, 2018.

Sign up a team to play in the OTL world championship today at www.ombac.org, or just come out and watch the fun in July. San Diegans can also get a preview of the summer season of OTL at the second annual Beerfest& Over-the-Line Tournament at Mariner’s Point on May 19th and 20th.
