Reyes Beer Division Strikes Deal to Acquire MD’s G & G Distributors

The Reyes Beer Division has reached a deal to acquire Centreville, Maryland-based G & G Distributors, the company announced today.

“We look forward to growing our business in Maryland and remain committed to delivering on our company’s purpose of connecting customers, consumers and brands every day, everywhere we operate,” Reyes Beer Division CEO Tom Day said in a press release.

G & G will join Premium Distributors, Reyes’ existing Frederick, Maryland-based operations. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. However, the deal is expected to close August 13 and includes “substantially all the assets” of G & G.

The acquisition will add 700,000 case equivalents and 400 retailers to Premium’s existing 4 million case business, which services 2,000 retailers annually, according to Premium’s website.

“We’ve been operating in the state of Maryland since 2006 and are focused on creating more opportunities for our people and our business,” Reyes Beer Division East president Stephen Reyes said in the release. “We are eager to welcome the operations, customers and employees of G & G Distributors to Reyes Beer Division.”

Reyes Beer Division has been extremely active in mergers and acquisitions in the last several years, with most deals taking place in California. The G & G deal marks Reyes Beer Division East’s first acquisition since the business unit acquired Indianapolis, Indiana-based Monarch Beverage last year. The Monarch acquisition was the first time Reyes added a new state since it entered Florida in 2011 with the acquisition of Orlando-based Florida Distributing.

“Since the acquisition of Monarch Distributing in December 2020, we have been excited about the opportunity to expand our RBD East footprint once again,” Day said.

Premium and G & G boast similar brand portfolios. G & G distributes brands from Molson Coors (Coors Light, Miller Lite, Blue Moon, Vizzy Hard Seltzer, Topo Chico Hard Seltzer, and more), Constellation Brands (Corona, Modelo, Pacifico), Boston Beer (Samuel Adams, Angry Orchard, Twisted Tea, Truly Hard Seltzer, Dogfish Head), Yuengling, Heineken USA (Heineken, Dos Equis, Tecate, SunRise Hard Seltzer) and Pabst (Pabst Blue Ribbon, National Bohemian, Jack Daniel’s Country Cocktails and more). In addition to those brands, Premium also distributes offerings from Flying Dog Brewery, also based in Frederick, Maryland.

Together with its sister wholesaler Premium Distributors of Washington, D.C., Premium carries 2,410 SKUs and operates two warehouses with a combined 206,749 sq. ft. of space in Frederick and the nation’s capital. The distributors’ more than 40 trucks travel more than 171,000 miles annually.

Premium Distributors of Maryland and of Washington, D.C., combined have about 114 full-time employees, and the company hopes to retain all of G & G’s staff.

“It’s our goal to keep as many employees on board as they have the local and institutional knowledge, and customer relationships that has made this business so successful,” a Reyes Beer Division spokesperson told Brewbound.

G & G’s hometown of Centreville is located in Queen Anne’s County on the Delmarva Peninsula, about 30 miles across Chesapeake Bay east of Annapolis. Its territory includes Queen Anne’s, Kent, Talbot, Dorchester and Caroline counties, all on the peninsula.

Premium’s territory includes Frederick, Washington and Howard counties, which begin southwest of Baltimore and stretch northwest to the state’s border with West Virginia.
