ALEXANDRIA, Va.— Port City Brewing Company is proud to share its 2019beer release calendar. The award-winning brewery will expand its already diverse offerings to include new beers, new packages, and existing brands bottled for the first time.
“We’re excited for the new year,” says founder Bill Butcher. “With the upgrades we’ve made to our equipment and processes over the past year and a half, we’re in a great position to start2019 with a bang.”
In addition to perennial favorites like Optimal Wit, Monumental IPA,and Porter, Port City will release three new beers in 2019. In mid-January, Golden Export Lager will make its first appearance as part of theRotating Lager Series. The draft-only blonde lager balances subtly sweet, toasty malt character with spicy, herbal hops. To celebrate its eighth anniversary in early February, the brewery will release in bottles and on draft COLOSSAL 8, a doppelbock lager with notes of baking bread and plums. Finally, Rivershed will make its debut in mid-May, both on draft and in bottles. A tribute to the Chesapeake Bay and the rivers that run into it, the dry-hopped pale ale will feature locally grown grains and a highly aromatic hop presence.
For the first time, the brewery will release Variety 12 Packs. The year-round package,available throughout the Metro DC area, will launch in January 2019 with three bottles each of Optimal Wit, Monumental IPA, Integral IPA, and Porter. The company has also redesigned their Optimal Wit 12 Packs to more closely align with the beer’s recognizable design; customers across the brewery’s nine state distribution area will be able to enjoy the handy package throughout the year.
Two beers that had previously been draft-only will appear in bottles for the first time in2019. Long Black Veil,Port City’s Black IPA, will release at the beginning of January. The jet-black beer features piney, citrusy hops that mingle with notes of coffee and dark chocolate. Helles, a German-style blonde lager that debuted in 2018 as part of the Rotating LagerSeries, will release in late June. CleanPilsner malt sweetness is supported by a subtle, refined noble hop character to create a balanced, eminently drinkable lager.
“We have a fantastic lineup of beers planned for 2019,” says Sales Director John Gartner. “All of our beers are dialed in and we can’t wait to share the new ones with the world.” Availability subject to change and may vary.
