Newburyport, MA — Newburyport Brewing announces today that its 1635 Series Barleywine won the Gold Medal in the “Strong Beer” category. Newburyport Pale Ale, Plum Island Belgian White, and the 1635 Series Saison each won Silver Medals in the categories of “American Pale Ale”, “Witbier”, and “Saison”, respectively. The 1635 Series Kölsch rounded out the awards with a Bronze Medal in the “Kölsch” category.

The 19th Annual Great International Beer & Cider Competition was held on Friday, October 23, 2015, in Providence, Rhode Island, one day before the 22nd Annual Great International Beer Festival. Six hundred eighty (680) beers and ciders from breweries and cideries across the U.S. and from around the world entered the competition. One hundred-twenty professional brewers, beer industry professionals (retail and distribution) and beer journalists acted as judges in a blind tasting format. First, second and third place awards were presented in 59 categories of ales, lagers and ciders. The judges knew only the style and subcategory of each beer and cider.

“I’m excited for our Brewmaster, Mike Robinson, and also for our brewing and cellaring teams. They all work very hard to produce consistently high-quality beers and pay attention to every detail to make all of our beers the best they can be”, said co-founder Bill Fisher. “It is great to see this level of independent recognition of their work from industry professionals and peers.”

Newburyport Brewing’s 1635 Series of limited edition small batch craft beers showcases various recipes inspired by the creativity of our brewmaster as well as favorite recipes from our brewery team. Each beer in the Series is periodically available at the Newburyport Brewing Company tasting room as well as select bars and restaurants.
