New Home for Manhattan Beer Distributors

Manhattan Beer Distributors is pleased to announce the move of our headquarters and warehouse complex to 955 East 149th Street in the South Bronx. The new location has been acquired for the best of all reasons: to allow Manhattan Beer Distributors (MBD) to provide the best possible service for its customers with a bigger, more efficient and more eco-friendly facility that will accommodate substantial business growth for many years to come.

Founded in 1978 by Simon Bergson from humble beginnings—a 4,000 square foot building in lower Manhattan, with three delivery trucks—MBD has achieved fantastic growth in the intervening four decades to become one of the largest beer distributors in the country.

MBD’s move represents a $65 million investment, with 350,000 square feet of warehouse space including over 100,000 square feet of refrigerated space, with a goal of reaching the highest level of LEED certification. It took five years to locate, acquire and develop the 19-acre site within the congested confines of the South Bronx.

The new location will enhance Manhattan Beer’s position as one of America’s most environmentally friendly wholesalers. The new headquarters will feature LED lighting, a high-efficiency Trane heating and cooling system, spray foam insulated walls and ceilings, a CNG fueling station with a goal of converting 50% of its 300 truck fleet to CNG within the next 5 years, a 26 car rail siding which minimizes the use of over the road tractor trailers, and water free urinals to minimize water consumption. MBD also has the potential to install on its rooftop the largest solar panel installation in New York City producing one megawatt of electricity, enough to power the entire new facility.

In addition to our new location, MBD has other facilities in Queens, Suffern, and Wyandanch that total over 1.2 million square feet of warehouse space. MBD’s trading area includes all of New York City, all of Long Island and eight adjacent Hudson Valley counties.

MBD’s major brands are Coors, Corona, Blue Moon, Sam Adams, and Mike’s, in addition to many local craft brewers such as Captain Lawrence, Kelso of Brooklyn, Keegan’s, Empire, Ithaca, Coney Island, and others Overall, the company distributes products for over 70 suppliers with over 1,400 SKU’s. In 2012, MBD sold over 33 million cases, had sales of over $700 million and employs over 1,400 employees.
